Thanks for the quick response, TalismanRich. There may be an issue with the cable wiring (XLR to XLR), but (unlike the mic!) it is brand new. Finding someone with an amp or audio interface to plug it into is a good suggestion.

Hi All, I just received a used AT 2035 condenser mic off of Reverb for a demo that I want to record. The mic will be run through a Tascam DP-03 portastudio. The Tascam provides 48 v phantom power, which I have activated. The issue is that, when using the mic, I am unable to monitor anything...

Also, a bunch of PJ Harvey's stuff was recorded on a Portastudio, since it was (is?) part of her song writing process. Even when she had access to a real studio, she would often incorporate some of the tracks from the original demo (especially the vocals).

That's right, both are identical except that the 03 includes a CD burner. (I got some blank CDs through a "buy nothing" group on Facebook: I've also seen them at thrift stores like Goodwill). You can still move files to and from your computer like the 03SD, but you can also burn stuff to a CD...

Thanks, @spantini. That's super helpful. I figured that this was the relationship between gain and frequency, but I have never worked with an EQ that was set up this way. Anyway, I mostly EQ by ear anyway, so I was able to get some decent equalization by just messing around with the two settings...
