I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

Keep in mind that if you're sending to external FX (reverb, delay, etc.) you need to return these somewhere. Make sure the console has enough returns to handle your external FX. Or alternatively, if your new console had more than 24 tracks, you could return your FX to unused channel strips and...

    HD24 Virtual Tracks?

Thanks for the advice. It will take some extra work and some extra time, but hopefully it will be worth it. I'll give it a shot. I'm spoiled when I record at school with Pro Tools HD as I can record 100 takes of the same song and keep them all. Last quarter I did 92 takes of vocals and...

I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

The Mackie 32:8 that I work with has broken pres, faders, switches, knobs, meters, jacks, etc. It also doesn't have the headroom to handle full 24-bit audio. You need to trim each track by about 6db before hitting the tape return or you'll have to mix with all of your faders about an inch from...

    Mackie Vs soundcraft

We have a SPIRIT LIVE 4 32-channel board at my church and it has ONE phantom power switch for the whole board. I don't know if the Studio version is the same way.

    HD24 Virtual Tracks?

I have a HDR24 and I was wondering if there is a way to record onto virtual tracks in the same way that ProTools uses playlists. The HD24 is great for recording outside of my home studio, but I can't figure out how to do multiple takes and the manual says nothing of this. I want to be able to...

Favorite mic for acoustic, especially violin?

I'll second the M300's. How do you like the C42's? How do they compare to the Gefells tonally? I'd also recomend the AKG C414

    Screamer/Growler mics

Try an omni like an Earthworks QTC-1. It sounded crazy to me the first time it was recomended to me, but it was the keeper for that song.

Studio Projects C1 vs Neumann u87

For the price of a U87 you could get a complete mic locker. In the 3000 price range, something by Gefell, Blue, Brauner, or Soundelux would most likely be a better choice. With so many companies making quality mics nowadays, I see no reason anyone should ever buy a (new) U87.

    Effects return on VS-2400

I'm so stupid. That's such an obvious solution. I will go bury my head in shame.

    Effects return on VS-2400

I've noticed that most of the portable DAWs have aux outs or effects sends but I've yet to find one with an effects return. What's the point? I want to be able to use outboard effects on my recorded tracks by sending the audio out of the DAW, into an EQ/Compressor/Modulation/whatever and then...
