Channel #2 on my 388 has stopped working.

Hi sweetbeats, Apologies for the late reply but channel 2 is now working again with no issues. I've been hoping it might drop out again but of course it has done no such thing. I appreciate the response all the same. Also, no offense taken at all regarding the difference between tape tracks...

Hi everyone, I've been happily recording on my 388 for years now without any problems. Unfortunately, channel 2 has just stopped working. I plan to open it up and check the channel card sometime over the next few days but thought I'd better run things by the folks at homerecording before doing...

Using Otari 5050 8 track with 388 mixer

Thanks for all your input! Chilljam, my understanding is that the input on the Otari is switchable between +4 and -8db? Perhaps I've misunderstood something here? Miroslav, no nothing wrong my 388, its been super reliable and its transport etc is way better than clunky otari imo. 388 isn't as...

Using Otari 5050 8 track with 388 mixer

Hi everyone! Couple of quick, basic questions. Can I use an balanced XLR to 1/4" TRS multicore to connect my Otari 5050 8 tracker with the 8 channel on my 388's mixer? The Otari is unbalanced but uses XLR connectors. The tascam 388 is also unbalanced obviously. Should be a simple hookup...

Tascam 38 - tape rubbing reel flanges

yeah sorry I thought that might happen. its a hard thing to describe. I'll try get a video recorded! However no the reel tables aren't really wobbling when they turn. So another way to describe would be to say that the reels do not sit perpendicular or at 90 degrees relative the machine, id...

Tascam 38 - tape rubbing reel flanges

After putting some tape on my newly acquired tascam 38 :) ive noticed that the tape rubs against the reel flanges when playing. :( The machine was shipped to me and was packed well. Recording choir and a small ensemble with my 388 - bad idea?

well ecc83, with the splitter I would probably want it to be a passive design, though I don't think i'll be needing one anytime soon so it's not high on my list of priorities.

Recording choir and a small ensemble with my 388 - bad idea?

The recording worked out great, I ended up using going with digital and glad I did. Definitely wasn't a job for the 388. If I was going to do this more often I would get a splitter and a backup recorder. I used a simple ORTF pair up quite high behind the conductor. Pretty much as close to the...

Recording choir and a small ensemble with my 388 - bad idea?

thanks for the quick replies! Regarding reliability, I know it sounds crazy to think of a 35 year old tape deck as reliable but it has honestly never skipped a beat on me since I bought it. The 388 is indeed a solid little machine. My computer however has recently had an OS update and so I...

Recording choir and a small ensemble with my 388 - bad idea?

I have recently been given the opportunity to record a forty person choir along with a small accompanying ensemble (at the same time). I've been pondering whether the 388 is up to this task or if perhaps I should use my computer/digital interface. The 388 is certainly a lot more dependable than...
