OverHead Tracking - 1 Stereo track vs. 2 Mono tracks

All of my processing in both scenerios remained the same. Either I processed (EQ and comp) the OH Sub bus, or I applied the EXACT same processing to a stereo track. The only thing that changed was 2 x monos vs. 1 stereo. A learning experience nonetheless. Something to be aware of in the future.

OverHead Tracking - 1 Stereo track vs. 2 Mono tracks

I think you are on the right track. I do believe there is some sort of cross talk or summing going on in a single stereo track. I had a similar problem many years ago when I had 2 tracks from a mixing board panned left and right going into my Audio Interface and the signals were summed. I don't...

OverHead Tracking - 1 Stereo track vs. 2 Mono tracks

To be clear, I'm not asking for solutioning here. It's just a question out of curiosity and for my own learning. In my drum template in my DAW, I had my Drum overheads on separate mono tracks panned left and right. I then sent them to an AUX bus for easier mixing (OH Sub). A while ago when I...

UPDATED: . My wife and I bought a house last year and I can now bring my MILESTONE drums out of 20 year storage and start playing them again!!! Here they are:

Sooooooo tired of fake drum threads.

I have both V-Drums and my 6 Piece Acoustic kit. I generally only play my acoustic kit and record with it. I only play my v-drums if I have to spend a lot of time practicing something over and over. It gives my wife a break from the noise. I do agree there should be a separate category for...

    How to record percussion (bongos)

Don't forget to ensure your bongs are properly tuned. I use 2x 57's on a stereo bar run through a tube preamp and a tube compressor. Great results.

Recording Car Exhaust - Clipping and Gaps

I can only comment on what I have done in the past. 2 x C414's in stereo 12inches from the exhaust pipe., offset so the exhaust blast doesn't create wind noise. It worked well for us, however we ere just trying to capture an idling car at 500 RPM. We were in the empty parking lot of the studio...

    Limiter/Compressor WHILE Recording?

Yes, I compress on the way in for Bass, mic'd guitar amp, acoustic guitars, vocals, aux percussion, etc. I prefer using outboard gear for this rather than in the box.

    Acoustic guitar.

stereo mic'ing, subtle/minimal stereo delay, reverb, EQ where necessary and compression on the way in. Simmer for 10 mins on low heat. Serves 2-4

    Recording bass

All good advice here, but at the end of the day, there are many ways to skin a cat. I have struggled to get a great bass tone for years. I have used DI, Amp Sims. Mic'd real amps. DI out of a real amp, compressors, tube pre-amps, etc. You just have to do the best with the gear you have. My...

After seven years of DAW, I will NEVER abandon tape again.

OP - I recently sold my FOSTEX R8, 7 inch reel to reel. Before I sold it, I transferred all my old tapes into my DAW for archival. Some of the raw acoustic guitars and raw vocals sounded so rich and warm. It sounded like the performers were right in the room with me. But having lived through the...

    The sound of the piano

If the piano is solo'd or close to solo'd I can tell between grand and upright usually, but not between baby grand and grand. Yes, VSTis are amazing nowadays. The default upright on my ROLAND HP630 is amazing. When I play it, if I shut my eyes, I feel like it's 40 years ago and I'm playing the...

    New, Old Stock Headphones Question

Yes,I was also considering the 770's @ 250ohm. I'm just trying to decide if I want open or closed back. I'm leaning towards open back and the 990's. I have other cans I can use for tracking when using mics. Now I'm reconsidering the 250 ohms. Other reviews of the 990's quote some treble spikes...

    New, Old Stock Headphones Question

I know you're right on all points. It's like not wanting to give my trusted Windows XP. At some point you just have to bite the bullet and move to Windows 7. I know the Sony's never had good reviews, but they have worked for me. I have learned them. I guess it's time to move on. Also, I did buy...
