Child loves singing, what can you recommend?

(doesn't seem to be easy to find well-known age appropriate music for a 6-year-old [;) she's not a toddler, lol!]) I'd say that the most important thing right now is developing her ear for music. It could be a great time for her to learn a musical instrument, too, especially if she is motivated...

    That "tone deafness" discussion...

Obviously, this is my personal opinion, and I would only apply it to vocal technique. As soon as you start interacting with equipment -- a DAW or musical instrument that is not your voice, expertise in pitch etc. becomes essential because it is the language of processing.

    That "tone deafness" discussion...

I am similar. I cannot always tell you if it's a "pitch" change or a volume change, but I am able to replicate the change. For me, a vowel or volume change can sometimes sound like a pitch change, when there is no pitch change. It doesn't necessarily matter, because I can still sing it back...

    That "tone deafness" discussion...

:) Pitch is psychoacoustic, so there is a psychological component to apprehending pitch. I still say that pitch going "up" or "down" is an approximate convention, and that isolating pitch in this fashion is not a requirement of musicality. I also believe that we can naturally join the dots and...

    That "tone deafness" discussion...

Curiosity got me searching and I found this video. I thought that I'd cherry-pick a couple of points that I agree with (there are many that I don't, and I was irritated by some of the trite interruptions from the host). 10:36+ "There is so much more to music than just pitch". The amusic dude...

That does appear to be a common theme in many of these experiences. But such behaviour comes with a threat to social cohesion. People are, by and large, programmed to "rein in" their "other senses" (giving rein to their "real world senses" may be a more accurate description), resulting in our...

    Writing Lyrics

Hypnopompic music has been a lot more commonplace for me. I wouldn't call the words "lyrics" though. Usually, it is just a couple of phrases related to the dream. The most memorable was a couple of chords, accompanied by the words. "remember!..........REMEMBER!!" right as the dream closed. I...

    Writing Lyrics

I think that I have posted once before about my remarkable hypnagogic experience. It didn't result in result in lyrics, but in a classical composition way beyond anything I could compose. It was back in my uni student days, and the sound was so "present", that I awoke twice to check where it...

How to not make a song into "sound soup"?

But I like "sound soup"... ABBA were the kings of sound soup (stew or broth, even), and I like the ABBA sound.

Singing stuff that doesn't suit your voice...

Hi fellow narcissists!!.. (that's what we wannabe vocalists are ;) )... (This is part of my 10-20 second a cappella practice clip series, as the most efficient way to improve your vocal technique.) Singing stuff that doesn't suit your voice... So, you keep learning new 'tips and tricks', and...

When is it "too late" to learn vocal techniques?

That's with the lid off, is it?

    After a bottle of wine...

Oh...and something crossed my mind... Some foods/drinks can dry out your vocal chords, slightly, affecting your singing. Anything containing alcohol is a good candidate, but there are a host of other things, all depending on the individual, of course. (Even the weather or room/studio humidity...

    After a bottle of wine...

:thumbs up: I got a sense of expanse, going back in time, revelation, solitude, followed by activity, before reading the full description, or looking at the words in the video. (There was also a "dancy" violin bit in the middle, that I didn't quite know what to make of :D ) I definitely got...

So.... Lyrics don't have to rhyme. Loose rhyming is better. It's more about compatible sounds. Too much rhyming ruins the lyrics. I hate rap. True or false?

    Writing Lyrics

I've just been thinking about "Green Green Grass of Home" by Tom Jones, a song I consider to be a masterpiece. I start to wonder if the thing was penned by human hands! Looking at it, the genius is not in idiom or mystique -- the words are cut and dried -- but in the drama. It uses a phenomenon...

    Writing Lyrics

I don't know if this works with lyrics, but I recall reading a book that was originally written/told in an African language, but translated very literally into English. It was poetry from beginning to end! Languages that do not have anywhere near the amount of vocabulary as English tend to be...

    Writing Lyrics

If the lyrics are not obvious, I think most people would ignore them until they are told by "scholars" or some "insider" what they are supposed to mean. I guess the trick is to get some interviews about your work and use that to start spouting nonsense clues about "what it all means"...
