welcome to the site. i don't use the site as much I probably should, however i have found that's it's just like anything else in life: The more I posted and participate, the more comments I get on my own threads. You can comment, or perhaps add some experience if you have it. No, it's not the...
I wasn't expecting this and I really like it. like others said synths too loud over drums, but you say you fixed it. Compelling gnarly feel. outro kinds reminds me of Skip Spence's "Sunshine of your love" freak out at the end of War In Peace -- in a good away! :)
I like the way it starts cold....right into it. I hear lots of mid-eq and not much high end..especially the guitars. The ending is a little abrupt. Maybe a little echo or reverb on last word without making it cheesy or cliched. Nothing wrong with a super short song, IMO. I can hear you put a...
man, that's the story of my life! lol. too many half-done songs, too few good ones. I am finding that working on one song exclusively sometimes sends me down a rabbit hole of over-analyzing and diminishing returns.. but having more than two going at once and nothing gets finished. I also like to...
love the strings. The vocals are good too, but perhaps a little to up front and dry. Maybe work on making then sit better in the mix. I want to hear more snare when the drums just come in, but that's just me and I hear how you're trying to build drums. Nice tom break. love the nylon guitar...
you've obviously got the chops and theres some nice runs in there -- perhaps too many for my taste but that's just me -- not a big fan of this kind of rock, but I see what you're going for. As for the mix, I'm missing the drums, especially the kick to nail things down and keep the groove from...
I'm a non drummer too -- and even after a few years with EZDrummer, I still get frustrated with creating realistic drums loops -- though learning the actual program is relatively easy once you get used to the interface. But I just don't think like a drummer, and that is what it is. But I HATE...
hey sparky123, thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I'm mixing the whole thing from the ground up using apollo and UAD plug ins -- mostly the address the comments about it being over-compressed. But I will take a new listen to the backing vocals and see if they are perhaps overused. I'll repost...
Welcome! Just joined myself. There's lots of folks here who r returning to writing and recording after a long time away from it. I look forward to reading your posts. :guitar:
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, gain staging was not done properly on this tune and it's apparently affecting lots of elements. I'm fairly new to home recording and mixing and I did not realize that my levels were post fader until the song was almost done . I've gone back and put a vu meter on...
thanks. The MBC horse is not only dead, it's been taken to the rendering plant..ha. appreciate the feedback. All this is helping a lot. It's great to get some fresh ears on this.
Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback. I want to do all I can t make the song stronger. The drums are EZdrummer loops -- I hate loops, but I'm an awful drummer and I"m out of the loop when it comes to other musicians in my area. Point well taken about the mastering. Totally agree. I actually...
Hey folks - I've been lurking for a while and posting here and there. But I'm finally becoming more active on this site and wanted to officially introduce myself. My name's Gary. The imaginary band in my head is called "Next of Ken." See you on the boards..
yeah, I think I'll just dispense with the MBC. Since the last mastering round, I have an Apollo Twin with some swell new UAD plug ins for mastering. Will tinker with those without going down the rabbit hole, hopefully. This feedback is great. Thanks.
point well taken. I have no idea how to master properly but I think the culprit is multi-band compression. Thanks for the input. Will take another look at it.
---------- Update ----------
thanks. My ignorance of multi-band compression is showing...:) time to try again.
