    What's the best budget multi-pattern LDC ???

Another vote for the CAD M179. It's ultra quiet and the multi-pattern comes in quite useful. I'm a big fan of AT mics too though. Love my 3035 and my dad's 4033.

    MSH Mics

I just received mine (MSH-1) the other day and I'm not disappointed at all. I haven't had a chance to hook them up down in my studio yet, just the living room with my H4. They aren't the quietest mics (ref CAD M179) but I wouldn't call them noisy. For the money I really don't think you could go...

Help configuring a new dual-boot system

If you're not set on a true dual boot you could look into a virtual machine. http://www.virtualbox.org/ Otherwise you'll need another partition (probably on the 250 drive) for the second OS. You can use a tool like GParted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/) after you defrag the drive and then...

    Computer Problem

Do you have a high speed connection? For kicks it may be worth while to run a LiveCD (like Ubuntu or Knoppix). http://mirror.cs.umn.edu/ubuntu-releases/edgy/ubuntu-6.10-desktop-i386.iso Burn that to a CD and make sure the PC is set to use the CD to start from (it runs from memory so you don't...

    Computer Problem

When you have the sides off, power up the PC and see if the CPU fan is spinning. It should be easy to figure out if the hard disk is bad by listening to it, but as mentioned that won't prevent the PC from turning on (so I doubt that's it). My vote is more towards the CPU overheating. I had a...

    Moving to PC setup

I've been using workstations for a while now (currently using an AW16G) and I've liked the all in one nature of them but it's always been a hassle to do editing on them or transferring to my PC for editing (I know newer ones can do this now). I'm a computer geek so I've got a pretty good PC...

    need laptop help

I use a Dell D820 (Core Duo) for my work with 2GB RAM and it's very nice. I'm a software developer for a living but occasionally I need to process audio files and it does a nice job with Audition (we develop voice applications). The processing is much quicker than my old single core Inspiron...

    Laptop memory?

I'm not sure about AMD's but I know if you're recording on Intel mobile processors you want to make sure the windows power setting is set to 'always on'. Windows has a dynamic speed switching mechinism that can cause all sorts of problems while recording on a laptop. Basically, it will switch...

?- to make onc pc as two

In a multi boot scenario, you need a boot manager that is aware of the available operating systems. With the swappable drives, there should be no need for a boot manager, each drive is self contained. So, it really is more like having two separate PCs. In some situations that's probably the...

?- to make onc pc as two

The general term to search Google for would be dual booting. I found a Windows article on Multibooting: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/multiboot.mspx As mentioned above, you have two or more operating installations and at boot time you need to decide which one to run...

    Alright computer gurus...

Go head over to http://www.notebookreview.com/ and read all the reviews and message board posts you feel like. The site was very helpful for me recently when I was shopping around for a new notebook. I went with a Dell D820 pretty much fully loaded that came in right around $2500 and I like it a...

    Wireless monitoring

Actually, I'll have to talk to him about that. He has a 4ch headphone amp so that might work for him. I think he's sort of hooked on the wireless thing though (less to trip over).

    Wireless monitoring

True, he's not really looking for a full blown system. He just plays in groups of about 2-5 people (avg 3) doing sort of the Peter,Paul,Mary thing. They have a PA that they use to plug the guitars in (and sometimes mics) when they play slightly larger rooms than a livingroom and he was thinking...

    Wireless monitoring

My dad isn't looking for high quality (and oddly enough has many pairs of cheap reading glasses). He's not a professional and is merely looking for something that will work for very small crowds (like church or retirement home). Just something that will allow him to hear the other people he's...

    Wireless monitoring

My dad is looking for some in ear wireless monitoring solutions and it looks like either Nady or Shure (for 2x Nady price). So as we were talking about stuff I told him he should just look into some wireless headphones and maybe take them apart and use the pieces. Then I came up with the idea of...

    Help building a PC?

I've got a P4 Intel system with an Antec Sonata case. The stock CPU fan was really loud but I just bought an Arctic Super Silent 4 Ultra TC and now you can't even hear the thing. I've tried other fans before with bad results but this thing is great. It has a huge heat sink and is thermally...

    Mackie Big Knob

I've been reading up on this thing and I'm wondering how much "coloring" it actually does to the monitoring chain. It has all of the connections I'm looking for and I really like the gain control abilities. I'm building a home studio in my basement and I'm looking to hook it up to my PC, AW16G...

    budget acoustic mics

I've got most of the "popular" budget mics (603S, MC012, B1, M179, AT3035) and I'd say they're all equally capable of getting a good sound out of and all different sounding. A used M179 would be pretty cool. They are really quiet and the multipattern gives you a lot of versatility. Throw another...

Im on a budget, where should I put my money?

With that small of a budget you're best bet is to make sure you sound really good. Afterall, if you're music sucks it doesn't really matter how much you spend on gear. And if you're stuff is awesome, people will forgive a lack of recording quality. You definitely could use some new monitors but...

Best Mic Pre Quality for the $$?

I don't think you'd be disapointed with a DMP3 but after buying a Sytek preamp I probably should've started there. The extra money is definitely worth it for preamps but if you can't shell out the cash then a DMP3 would be a good choice.
