    Edirol UA-1x

Hello, Anyone out there have the UA-1x? I'm trying to confirm that it is able to covert sample rates. I pipe tracks out from the computer to a Fostex VF80...the VF80's optical input is set to 44khz. The UA-10D (which I currently use) only sends audio out at 48khz....which causes a problem. The...

    Edirol Monitors

I've had a pair of 10Ds for about a year. I'm still getting used to them. They definitly color the sound in their own unique way. I have yet to decide if I really like them or not, but I probably need to get some more time in with them.

    Edirol Monitors

I have a pair of the 10w (UA-10d) digitals. They sound "okay"...but I'm not convinced that they sould "true". I think the inclusion of bass/treble controlls on the monitors may allow for uneven coloration of the sound.... For what I'm doing right now, they are okay...given the price...but...

    Sonic Youth

I love 'em. "Dirty" is one of my favorite albums...from both the writing and 'sound' perspective. Murray Street is wonderful as well. -sV

    Muffledness (!) on the VF80

Do you have any effects turned on for the track on which you recorded the guitar?

MR-8/Mac OS X users! What do you use to mix down your files once they are on desktop

Hello, I don't believe there are any useful shareware options for OS X. I use Apple's SoundTrack to polish recordings from my VF80. You could use it to import the .WAV files from your MR8 as well. I think you'll be quite satisfied with the commercial options available. If you feel...

VF80- How do you transfer your songs to a PC???

Hello, The S/PDIF is a direct digital stereo output. If your soundcard also has an S/PDIF connector, you can record the output (from the VF80) directly into you PC or Mac. I import via an Edirol UA-1D adapter, into Sound Studio (Mac OS X). Then I'm able to do my finishing touches with...

    VF80 1.05 Update Information

FYI: Here is the VF80 owner's manual supplement that discusses the software update: This is not a patch for any errors. Fostex is just adding a couple of functional features, nothing critical. 1. Adds a "chain play" feature allowing the machine to play multiple programs continuously, I...

    What comes first?

When dealing with a "final" mix....what should come first...EQ or compression? I have a hunch that any EQ'ing should be applied first, but I wanted to hear what others have to say on the matter. Thanks, -sV

    VF owners

I use this setup. I have the VF80 and Edirol UA-1D. I use Doggiebox (www.doggiebox.com) on Mac OS X to sequence drums. I then go out from the UA-1D to the S/PDIF input on the VF80. Then when all other tracks are done, and I'm ready to mix down....I mix down to Sound Studio (or Peak 3.5) via...

Recommended drum machines or drum software for MR-8

If you are interested in the software side of things: www.doggiebox.com Right now, it only runs on Mac OS X...so if you are Mac guy you are lucky. I've used Doggiebox for several recordings (in conjunction with a VF80) and it works great. -sV

    What Am I Doing Wrong???

Pro Tools Free claims to support AIFF, but if it is not working.....I suppose you get what you pay for.... If Pro Tools does see the .wav files, there is no reason not to use those. However, before you copy anymore .wav files to your hard drive, use Norton Utilities, Techtool, or something to...

    New VF80CDR purchase

I bought a VF80 almost a month ago. I love it. The manual is really handy right after you start using it. However, once you have done one or two songs, you will have the hang of it. The EQ/Effects stuff can be a bit intimidating at first as well, but those make sense pretty quickly also. -sV

    recording order?

I like to record the drums first because the timing of *everything* else depends on them in one way or another. The way I usually do it w/ my VF80: Drums (programmed into Doggiebox) Rhythm guiar bass lead guitar vocals (as many tracks as necessary)
