Metal Track - What Evil Lies in the Hearts of Men

Better or worse? Can only listen on my headphones at the moment.

Metal Track - What Evil Lies in the Hearts of Men

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The guitars do sound a bit harsh but as it's quite a modern metal sound I was going for I want them to sound quite brash and up front. Will see if I can reign them in without losing too much in-your-faceness (if that's a thing). The kick is pumped pretty hard...

Metal Track - What Evil Lies in the Hearts of Men

Here's my latest effort mixing of our band using ableton live 9. Give me your thoughts. As an amateur I think it's not too terrible but I'd like to get some other opinions :) https://soundcloud.com/nishi_lives/what-evil-lurks-in-hearts-of-men

    First Metal Song

Love guitars. Sounds similar in tone to Be'Lakor. The cymbals on the fast part towards middle of the song are distracting to me. Just sounds like a wash of noise. Otherwise it's nice sounding.

    Werewolf song

This is amazing. Really need to check out that sansamp bass DI. Sounds awesome and I really enjoy this tune. Would listen to an album of this for sure. Also intrigued by this. Please elaborate :): washing machine used as a bass drum track

That last mix was my favourite. I'd say keep the effects on vocals. Not usually a fan of effects on vocals but for this song I prefer it to the dry one.

Hmm dunno why I can't edit first post to add latest mix. This is the final mix I've come up with. Pretty happy with it I think... to my ears anyway.

"Twilight Rain", a soft spacey rock tune

Annoyingly well played and mixed. Great voice. Reminded me of the devils blood for some reason but a lot more chilled. Would love to have such a clear sound as this!

Hmm not sure which mix I prefer. This latest one sounds punchier but preferred the spacier vocals on last one but then maybe this sounds punchier because of the more raw vocals on it... It's a tricky one. I don't think you should avoid the retro sound though. It's very cool. It's a track to...

I'll be honest and say I can't hear a discernible difference. I'm trying to train my ears to pick out small differences but unless I could flip between them really quickly I don't think I could notice a difference between those two tracks.

No dobro. Sorry that was the original mix with the crap snare you were listening to there! :P. I hadn't uploaded the new mix yet. Limited time at home to actually do stuff (kids etc :-x). I was just updating what I'd done whilst I thought of it. Uploading the new mix now. Still haven't worked...

Sorry it is 2.20 i meant. It's not clipping probably as that part doesn't sound like it is louder than the rest but I hear a tiny click. It's so small it's not worth worrying about but I'm starting to wonder if I'm mad now... Listened back to it a few times on the soundcloud version and there's...

I like this tune. I'm not entirely sure what it reminds me of. I could throw out some comparisons that wouldn't quite fit (flip it i'll say bowie crossed with dandy warhols) but I'll say it's a sweet retro sounding tune. The mix sounds balanced. Drums are low in the mix to my ear or at least...

End Of Concrete - Advice on all aspects

I have redone rhythm tone to be cleaner, used pianoteq piano, reworked the drums and changed the snare samples (I'm personally happy with them now). Taken a bit of mids off the lead and edited the waveform ever so slightly to tighten it up (can never get it completely 100% tight as I'm no...

Greg's Mixing contest is over. No tracks to download.

My Cymbals sound like shite at the start. Hadn't noticed on the really bass heavy speakers I was using. Relistened now though. Bummer deadlines gone :P

2.22 there's a tiny amount of clipping (unless it's my headphones. Only issue I could spot.

Yeah not even sure why i stuck with that snare. It's awful. Sometimes you start working with something and end up tweaking it even though it's clearly shite. Llarion, thanks mate! Ok going to put all the elements together. All the changes. Hopefully finish tonight. Otherwise will have to be...

End Of Concrete - Advice on all aspects

Yeah agree with all of that. I just think the vocal would add interest but not be all pervasive. Would be awesome if you could get the piano sounding better. If you can then post it up for me and I'll make a lot of the suggested changes and repost the track :) Here's the midi...

End Of Concrete - Advice on all aspects

Yeah the drums are a bit distracting. Not being a drummer makes it really hard for me to come up with decent drums. I'll make some changes this weekend and repost. For the snare did you mean the last part of the chorus you were expecting another snare hit? Think I want to change the snare sound...

End Of Concrete - Advice on all aspects

I was thinking more like lamb or goldfrapp style more vocals. Quirky vocals. Apologies to Kanye West but I think he's a prick so can't listen to him. Don't think it would work as a rap song anyway. You're right about the piano. It's midi and I'm not entirely happy with it but I can't play the...
