Whats a good price for NS10M's?

I also give a nod to the M-Audio BX8's. Of the 4 sets of monitors that we have in our studio, these are the least expensive, but not the worst sounding. It's about preference, but the BX8's are a good place to start. I still subscribe to the theory, if it sounds good on NS10s it'll sound good...

A thread you may have missed about mixing

Nice thread Harvey. So what ever happened to Mixerman anyway? He was becoming sort of an internet audio legend.

    AD/DA Converter advice

I think the SSL converters would be slightly better than the converters in your HD rig but I also don't know that you'll be able to tell the difference. I'd get your Pro Tools rig up and running and record a few sessions, if you like what you hear, then there's no reason to go with anything...

    vocal producing Question???

Recording doubles for R&B is very different than recording doubles for Rap. In Rap, it's rare that the vocalist actually "raps harmony". The double is more for emphasis and dynamics, not so much "musicality". When recording and mixing rap doubles I tend to try and mix them so that you don't even...

    Real Time Bouncing

Yeah, but when you have a session that went until 3am and you want to go home and sleep; suddenly the client wants a copy of all 13 tracks you worked on that day, now you have another 60 minutes of bouncing to do. PT should give you the option.

differences between pro tools and adobe audition?

Not that this hasn't been beaten to death already, but what the heck, I'll give my 2 cents. Audition, IMO, is the best 2-track editor out there. I started on it when it was Cool Edit 96, and I still swear by it for fast edits, voiceover stuff, etc. However, Pro Tools is the best multi-track...

I think Digi claims the bounce sounds better that way; something about better conversion or something. I'm suspect, but that's Digi.

    Using the grid

Yep, the grid becomes infinitely more helpful when you know the tempo (BPM) of the tune you're working on. Especially when your vocalist insists that you cut and paste the hook 15 times rather than he singing it, but I digress......

    protools with Amd dual core???

I can't say regarding the dual core but I have had good luck running PT on AMD processors. Maybe someone knows a little more about duals. For what it's worth I'm an Asus fan, when it comes to mobos. Good luck.

    Adobe Audition

I like Audition. It was the first DAW I learned way back when it started out as Cool Edit 96 (it was free then). It's always seemed very straight forward in it's design, especially the 2-track editor. I could do without the multi-tracker. For what it's worth, I'm finding Audition at several...

    M-Audio BX8a

Along with our NS10s, K-Roks, and big ol' Urei's, I have a set of BX8s. Surprisingly I dig them a lot. I use those and the Yamahas to mix and the KRKs to track. The have pretty good low end response but are a bit bright up top.

record again, or copy and paste

It depends. I have absolutely no problem pasting, but it really depends on the type of song that I'm working on. A lot of the stuff that I do is Pop oriented so pasting parts is allowed (almost encouraged). If the song that I'm working on is more "organic" then I usually have the artist play all...

How to fix off-beat drums without re-recording?

Actually he asked if re-recording and/or punching in was the best solution. It is, if that's possible. If not, he should do what you and I both suggested (or try the Audiosnap thing).

How to fix off-beat drums without re-recording?

What Sweetnubs is saying is that the best way to have good drums is to record good drums. There's no substitute for a good (or bad) performance. If you can, I would re-track the drums until they're in time. Beyond that, sometimes I'll take the best 4 bar section from the chorus and the 4 best...
