If singing live try and sing slightly over the top of the mic rather than directly into the capsule. This will prevent the little puffs of air expended during 'p's & 't's' from blasting the capsule itself.
If in the studio use a pop filter. Your sisters girlfriends pantyhose on a wire...
Is that the current Dixie Chicks release? The current album sounds so incredibly thin and squashed to my ears.
Irrespective of whether it was recorded digital or analog it's almost unlistenable IMO. I guess it may be a case of the record company telling the mastering house to... "Make it loud!"...
When is this analog versus digital debate going to end?
How many of you would be prepared to partake in double blind testing of unfamiliar recorded material and then state catogorically which is analog and which is digital? If you're wrong your testicals will be surgically removed...
Over in Oz at the moment you can buy a Rode Classic II for only about $150 AUD more than a SP's T3. That's a difference of about $80 U.S. While I've auditioned a T3 and reckon it sounds pretty nice I was interested in someone who has spent time with both these mics in a studio environment...
I think it is a much fairer to compare a 3630 with an RNC than either with a Distressor.
I'm not sure what a 3630 sells for but I doubt it would be a great deal less than a RNC.
As far as comparisons are concerned if you want transparent compression the RNC wins hands down. If you want a...
I would say in 'Super Nice' mode it sounds not disimilar to an Aphex Compellor. Even with 10 to 12 db of gain reduction it stays pretty transparent.
It normal mode it's fairly conventional.
'Super Nice' mode is what really makes the RNC. ;)
Look at any equipment purchase this way. The gear you buy should either improve your sound and/or make your recording easier and more enjoyable.
A 3630 will do none of the above.
However in comparison with a RNC, it does excel as a toothpick! ;)
Don't fall for buying something because it is...
WTF?!!!... Hasn't this dude ever heard of MS?
A entire paragraph devoted to...
"Stereo-Miked Acoustic Guitar Tracks and Mono-Compatibility"...
And NO mention of MS?!!... MAJOR OMISSION!
In fact MS is even more mono compatible than XY.
IMO the 'numero uno' method of recording...
Supernice mode will give you the most transparent compression.
Supernice mode is what has made the RNC famous.
It will allow quite a high degree of compression without making everything sound too 'squished'! So it's particularly usefull for both full mix compression and acoustic guitars or...
How have you got your MPX-100 patched in?
It should be set to receive from 'post fade' auxillaries (FX send) and returned either via a stereo aux return or channel strip.
Set the mix balance to full 'wet'. If you have any dry signal present at all in the returned signal that will cause phase...
I don't have the hardware unit itself but I do have plenty of MPX-500 impulse files. They sound okay but not in the same league as the PCM series units. Same for the MPX-550... not in the same league.
The MPX series processors are Lexicons budget home studio end of the market. The PCM series...
I recorded a demo in my loungeroom about eight years ago.
For the drumkit I used a pair of Radio Shack PZM's (9volt battery and balanced) on a 1 metre square panel bisecting the kit through the snare and ,wait for it, a Shure SM58 on the kick.
That was it! To be frank... that was all I had to...
Of course it really boils down to what it is you're loaning and who you are loaning it to. If it was a Behringer 'something-or-rather', provided I knew the person wasn't a total dick, then probably okay. The other aspect is it only once or twice? If they are calling up every weekend to borrow...
Anyone looking for reverb impulses for their convolution based reverb plugins should check this site out for some good impulses.

Also check out the links page. ;)
Non Super Nice mode is suitable for compressing things like individual drums etc. Where you are recording something that contains lots of different frequencies and overtones (ala acoustic guitar, or a full mix) then Super Nice mode will, while still controlling the dynamics of your instrument...
