So I do have some music out now!

Thanks! I appreciate that! I was once told lyrically that I'm a little too repetitive. That basically two verses would say the same thing, but with different words, instead of "advancing the story". Which song (or songs) did you like the best? I'm working on more lyrics in general right now...

Anybody know anything about copyright law? Kind of a unique question...

This is one of the things I'm curious about. My dad wrote them as poems. If I turned them into songs wouldn't that make me a co-writer? Or are you suggesting that since my dad gave them to me in the 1990's that I could list myself as writer? I doubt I make any real money on them (I mean, heck...

Anybody know anything about copyright law? Kind of a unique question...

Honestly, I don't even know that she knows that I still have them. I looked the other day, and one was dated from 1994, another from 1999, and the 3rd is undated.

Anybody know anything about copyright law? Kind of a unique question...

Ok, as far as I'm aware, he has/had no estate. He didn't really own any property when he passed, except for some DVDs, some vinyl records (I think), and some jewelry. My sister basically got all of that (or, more appropriately, took all of that). I don't think he had a will, either. I mean, he...

Anybody know anything about copyright law? Kind of a unique question...

Years ago my father wrote some poetry. He gave me three poems that he hand-wrote. They have his name on them, and they're just written on paper. I've been thinking of publishing them, either as poems or trying to turn them into songs, but I don't know the implications there as far as copyright...

A weird question on Ribbon Mics

See, that's what I assumed. I assumed if a plosive could damage the ribbon, then the air moved by an amplifier could, too. That's why I was confused...

A weird question on Ribbon Mics

I'm mostly asking because I found an "active ribbon" mic in my price range, and I was thinking about getting it, mostly for "mid-side" recording. I mean, I get that the ribbon is very thin. The one I'm looking at has a 2 micron ribbon. So how are they supposed to be stored? The mics I have now...

A weird question on Ribbon Mics

I've been doing some reading on these, and I found something very interesting. Can someone explain to me why you're not supposed to sing into them, because plosives might damage the ribbon, but you can use them on amplifiers?

Acoustic strings for a retro/vintage sound?

Good. Because I have a couple of sets of Monel strings. I bought a set for my six-string, and a set for my 12-string.

Acoustic strings for a retro/vintage sound?

From what I found, "steel" guitar strings actually came out in the very early 20th century (around 1900 or so). So I guess my question is: before 80/20 strings, before Phosphor Bronze strings, what was there that was considered "steel" strings on guitars?

Acoustic strings for a retro/vintage sound?

I'm working on a project right now where I'm looking for sort of a "vintage"/retro sound (think early 20th Century, almost). I've got a few sets of strings that I can use, that are different materials. I've got some Phosphor bronze, 80/20 bronze, Aluminum Bronze, "Earthwood" (Ernie Ball), and...

Acoustic Project -- Should I buy an SM57?

@Pinky First: NARF! Second: Yeah, I thought about that, so I think I'm just gonna go ahead and do the guitar recording first, then do the vocals after that.

Acoustic Project -- Should I buy an SM57?

Ok, I think I've figured out what I'm gonna do. I'm probably gonna buy this mic stand: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MicStdDeskBm--on-stage-stands-ms7920b-bass-drum-boom-combo-mic-stand So I can use my microphone bar. Right now I'm leaning toward "spaced pair" instead of "X" pattern...

I thought about doing it just to save some time.

Acoustic Project -- Should I buy an SM57?

Ok, so, I think I'm gonna go ahead and use the P170's for the guitar recording. I'm gonna run them through a Focusrite. But that brings me to a couple of other questions: Does string type/material matter with relation to microphone? In other words, would I use a different microphone on 80/20...

Acoustic Project -- Should I buy an SM57?

Thanks everyone for the tips! I'm probably going to have to find a way to rig it, as I don't have a stand that's the right size (I need one that has about a 30-inch height), but I think I'm going to use the P170's in an X pattern, at least for guitar, where I can. And I think my MK319 for...

That's a good thought, @keith.rogers I'll keep that in mind.

Acoustic Project -- Should I buy an SM57?

I'm working on a project right now that's just going to be acoustic guitar and vocals. The guitars I'm going to be using, most likely, are my Takamine EG334 SBC (Spruce top, Ovangkol back and sides), my Harley Benton D-200CE-12BK 12-string (Laminated Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides), and...

    SM57 on a Martin D35

I've been considering buying a 57, but how's it compare to a 58 when recording acoustic guitar?
