Question: Is a 30-watt amp head going into a 2x12 cab good enough for medium-sized gigs?

I guess when I read “punk gigs” I do not immediately assume there is gonna be enough PA even for the vocals or anybody with a clue running it. Maybe y’all have a different definition? Anyhoo, it’s kind of tough to say how loud a thing will be just by wattage and speaker size. Watts mean...

If want to use the effects on my personal mixer at a venue where they already have a PA system, can I connect my mixer to the house mixer?

Oh if your mixer has some way of providing a dry signal along with the effect, the house engineer has a lot more chance to make it work. They could send less of the effects to the monitors and even adjust the wet/dry balance in foh if it really seems necessary.

If want to use the effects on my personal mixer at a venue where they already have a PA system, can I connect my mixer to the house mixer?

Yeah like others said it’ll “work”, but…. My main concern would be the gain-before-feedback thing. A dedicated “vocal processor” doesn’t fix any of the issues. In fact, it might make things worse because you’ll be tempted to use its onboard compression which just exacerbates the feedback issue.

questions about sending DAW effects to mixer for rehearsal

Does the audio interface have a microphone input? Just plug the mic in there and then the interface into the mixer. There’s probably reverb in the DAW too, but I suppose you could still add it at the mixer if you prefer.

Phasing when recording DI & miked simultaneously

Very often we’re relying on the DI and the mic for very different things and treating them very differently such that they end up just not overlapping enough for significant phase based interference to be a real issue. But yes, when it is an audible issue, we do what we need to do. Whether...

Can I stand on a piece of metal to ground myself instead of buying a hum eliminator?

Do me a favor and take that wire off your ankle and clip to your guitar’s bridge instead. Thanks.

Can I stand on a piece of metal to ground myself instead of buying a hum eliminator?

Touching the Zoom should have exactly the same effect as touching the strings or bridge of the guitar. If touching the guitar doesn’t also reduce the hum, then that ground connection isn’t carrying through somewhere. I personally would probably start by swapping out whichever cables are...

    gain staging, meters, luffs

LUFS is honestly just filtered and gated RMS. With most sources, unless the final balance is really weird or there’s a lot of gaps of silence, the two should measure pretty close the same. So if you’re used to RMS… Average levels (RMS, LUFS or even VU) have nothing really to do with gain...

    Backwards Guitar

The real trick is to first reverse the backing track, then play to that for the overdub, then flip the whole thing back around. An algorithmic reverse reverb usually isn’t actually anything other than a normal (gated?) reverb with an envelope follower with a fairly slow attack so that it seems...

    Metering in Reaper

If you don’t know what you’re doing then why are you doing it? If we don’t know what you’re trying to do how can we tell if you’ve done it right? I personally think you should set it back to default and ignore everybody who said you need to change it.

    Venting on V7.X

I mean that audio file exists. You could find it and jam it into a new project.

    Random tuning stuff

The frequency at which the string vibrates depends on an inverse relationship between tension and length and mass. Basically F=T/(m * L). If m stays the same, and L gets bigger, T has to get bigger so F can stay the same. So yes, the same strings tuned to the same pitch must have more tension...

    Random tuning stuff

Ultimately if it actually matters, there’s something wrong with the guitar. Identifying and fixing that issue is probably the right answer.

Is reverb in the Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue analog or digital?

Turn up the reverb and then kick the amp. That’ll answer the question. ;)

How do I remove my middle and neck strat pickups from the circuit so only the bridge pickup works?

You could actually rewire the switch to disconnect both ends of the pickups when you switch away from them. This would retain all of the options while having the same effect. In the process you’d also resolder most of the circuit which would probably fix the issue on its own.

How do I remove my middle and neck strat pickups from the circuit so only the bridge pickup works?

You coud desolder or even just snip them loose and then have 3 dead positions (Jack open, possibly noisy) on the switch. If you want to use the switch as a kill switch it’d probably be better if you run a wire from a ground point to the spots on the switch where those pickups were connected...

Placement of noise gate (plugins and hardware)?

Well in plugin world if they’re adding noise it’s for no good reason and you should either turn off that “feature” or find a different plugin that doesn’t do that. Most of the time we want the noise gate before any non-linear plugin which might reduce the dynamic range because it‘s usually...

How to split a guitar cable signal into two (inexpensively)?

The only thing “active“ about that ABY thing is the LED. It‘ll work as well as any Y cable, which is to say probably fine after a buffer. The benefit of balanced connection is questionable and conditional compared to the effect of attenuating an already slightly too quiet signal just to turn...

Sidechain compression on reverb... how to?

Question about the bypass functionality in two popular effects pedal switching systems

I mean the description you posted for the Octaswitch didn’t say anything about an output buffer and I’m not actually familiar with it. So when I was talking input vs output, it was more about the difference between the two units you were talking about. If any of the loops is engaged, we’d...
