My song "sounds like a demo, not a recording" - HELP!

Don't count me out- There is way to much reverb on the drums. The amount of reverb need to come down and high end needs to be cut. The bass had a little too much high end when solo'd IMO. Another problem is the compression or lack of it on your insturments. There isn't a constant level...

    Dissonant Relative - Complextro

MysticNetherlan- I'm glad you like it. I do have a bit of side chain compression going on, but it's only on one synth. I'd like it to stand up to "professionals" in the genre, but I've only made 2 electronic songs, so I can't really expect to be at that level with so little work. I'd like to...

    Dissonant Relative - Complextro

This is an electronic(complextro) song I wrote recently. I usually don't write music like this, but I wanted to try it. It was a lot of fun playing with synths and stuff. Anyway if you have any comments about arrangement, mixing, etc, please leave them below...

    Arabic progressive metal-rock

If those are programed drums, use a different sample for the kick drum or preferably layer samples to give it more low end impact. I'd also raise the bass volume and if that makes thing muddy high cut the guitars. Try adding more drum room sound in by 1). increasing the room mics 2)...

    Killed A Man

Sounds pretty good to me. The only thing I can think of is raising the vocal a little bit and maybe add more reverb. Not a long reverb, but something to make everything sound bigger. A stereo delay might work too if you use it subtly.

    Jazz-pop tune.. mix opinions please!

Sounds pretty good to me. Reminds me of something from the 70s like Steely Dan. Nice stereo sound and although I prefer a more in your face mix, for this style of music it fits well. Great job.

    candyland(orchestral)

This is a short orchestral piece I wrote recently. I was inspired by soundtrack music although this wasn't written to be synced to film. Anyway any thoughts or criticisms?

    Mixng, Mastering Feedback on HipHop

I listened to the Drake song first and it was ok, except the vocals were a bit too loud in parts and it sat on top of the track. Try high passing a little more, add little more compression and then add some subtle delay.

    Rude Riddim (Dubstep/Reggae)

I do agree it could use more bass, but honestly it doesn't sound bad. The highs are very hyped and it's super compressed, but it fits the style. It has a nice groove and it hits really hard. Nice job.

    Evening Star

The song writing is good and overall the sound isn't bad, but it could use a little work. The cymbals could come down in volume a bit and the acoustic could be low passed a little too. The piano also sounds very thin, I don't if it's because of how you processed it, or the samples/keyboard...

    Digital Farewell(game/soundtrack/BGM)

This is a song I wrote a while ago that I felt never really came together, so I remixed it a few days ago. I've been trying to learn how to program synths recently, so I added some here to give the song a more modern feel. I'd appreciate your thoughts on it...

    Criticism Please! (Rock track)

The balance, distorted gtrs and bass sound good. The drums don't sound bad, but they sound unprocessed. They sound very 2D and I think they would benfit with a little ambiance reverb or delay added to them so they sounds like they were recorded in a room. Overall not bad, but you need a vocal to...

    Mixing crits please

The cymbals seem to be compressed to much, I hear pumping. I'd be careful about compressing cymbals. To me they sound bad if they are overcompressed and although you might only do a medium amount on the overheads, if you send that to a compressed drum bus which then goes into a master bus...

    Been awhile

The instruments sounds really good. The vocal doesn't seem to have many technical problems, but it seems a bit lifeless. I think a few more passes or a few more practice sessions with the song would help. I'd rerecord it and try to get a take with more feeling. Maybe get a few takes and comp the...

    2 short songs

dobro- Thanks a lot. I know sometimes when I'm writing/mixing/playing I get discouraged when listening to what the pros do and it's hard to really be objective when it comes to your own stuff. Thanks for listening and the nice words. jiff 41- Thank you for listening. I'll see what I can do...

    2 short songs

I wrote these 2 songs recently that are guitar oriented. The 2 a fairly different as the first is 80s metal and the 2nd is more 60s/70s style rock, If you have time please take a listen and comment on them. I'm mostly concerned about the mixing, but if want to comment on the songwriting, etc go...

    To the point

The drums have some timing issues that need to be fixed. The bass drum doesn't sound too bad, but the snare drum sounds really boxy and needs quite a bit of eqing. The cymbals don't sound that pleasent either, but I might not notice in a full mix. The toms seemed a bit weak too. The balance...

Getting back to basics. Please critique my mix.

The the drums sounded pretty good(although I'd prefer a little less room sound). The only problem was the cymbals had a very prominent high end sizzle. I'd look to kill that frequency or dial back the cymbals a bit. The guitars were a bit too weak. They need to be more prominent without...

hows the mix? Beatport Remix Contest Submission

It's not too bad, but the drums are too weak. Also the build up leaves you no place to go. I expected the drums to come in slamming, but they didn't make much of an impact. I'd bring the intro down in level, so you can come in hard during later. The bass drum also seemed to have too much in the...

    How is this mix?

I agree that the vocals could use a lot of work and the guitar seemed to have some timing issues too. Before redoing it I'd look at the arrangement first. It seems really sparse. What type of vibe are you going for with this song? IMO this song would be better with another guitar part, a...
