An already registerd version of sonar 8.5

After 8.5, the versions are X1, X2, X3 Platinum, CbB The last version to have V-Vocal was X2 This has been supplanted by Melodyne in the later versions, but you don't get the full version, just Essential

    Sonar Plat./new computer

Your understanding is wrong. You can install Cakewalk/Sonar on as many computers as you like The only caveat in the EULA was that you could only USE one of them at a time I never found this to be a problem due to a lack of limbs I currently have it installed on 4 different computers

I think this is the correct sub-forum for a question on mixing "large" songs

If you are recording & mixing at the same time then you'll need to get into the habit of raising your buffers when mixing but lowering them when recording. If it glitches during recording then you can easily bypass your Fx plugs with one click, or I think the shortcut in Sonar X3 is 'E' then...

    Transient Designer ?

In my experience you have to be fairly subtle in your processing when using transient shapers. I found the best application is for taming the decay on ringing toms. If you have a lot of tom work in your project it can really open the mix up

    How to properly reference songs

We've been able to do this in SONAR since at least 2006 when 6PE came out. Not that anyone will be buying SONAR in the near future, if at all

    Monitoring with headphones

It's been said before, probably on this very thread, but one of the biggest problems with mixing on phones is trying to get the panning right. On phones, there is no natural bleed of L > R & R > L Attempting to compensate can and will really screw up your stereo imaging

    VU meter question

IMO, the most accurate VU meters are those from Klanghelm And they're cheap!

How do I get all my plug-in to work with Sonar Professional.

You need to do a plugin RESET (important!) followed by a RESCAN Also, make sure wherever the dll is located for each plugin is referenced in the plugin mananger's paths

    Drum mixing, any suggestions?

It's easy to blur the stereo image if you don't pan things properly Bring up the Overheads on their own and make a note of where in the stereo field each drum/cymbal is panned. When you bring up the individual mics, pan accordingly to agree with the OH placement

    Am I doing this right?

This is easy in SONAR - just do a "save as" to a new folder with "copy audio to project" checked and it will only copy the clips currently associated with the project. Then just delete the original folder. I know this doesn't help you much but it's food for thought.

    Setting levels using pink noise

The only time I've ever used pink noise was when I calibrated my monitors to a known reference level.

    remove prerecorded reverb?

You could try running it through an M/S decoder and if you're lucky, the verb will be in the sides so you can pull it down a bit. If you're lucky.

    Buses And Sends Question!

I insert all my sends from the individual tracks

Live adjusting effects of multiple tracks

A common way to approach this is to record your automation moves whilst the project is playing and then go in afterwards to manually edit the individual "nodes" to create smoother curves and generally tighten things up

    recording electric guitar and vocals

Put the amp in another room and mic it up. Route it into your DAW and set up a headphone monitor feed so you can hear what you're playing while you sing.
