    Should I Buy A Tascam 388 In 2024

I used a 388 exclusively in Studio C at the studio I worked at in the early 90s. I recorded young bands that couldn’t afford the 24 track big Studio A. It was fun and I mostly recorded them live to the 8 tracks (usually 3 piece punk pop and grunge bands back then, a few rappers with someone beat...

Tascam M 520 direct out issue

Just curious, as a fellow M-520 owner, did I just get lucky with my lightly used one? When you talk about the general noise floor of the console, what are you hearing? mine is super quiet, I don’t hear anything more than the occasional trim pot or assign button that needs a little cleaning. I...

Found on FB for sale: Tascam M-520 & Tascam MS-16

I love my M-520. I haven't even re-capped anything in mine and it's quiet as a mouse! I don't know what measurement your statement is based on, but I'm just not seeing it with mine. To each their own, of course. I only paid $150 for mine in near mint condition, so I guess I got lucky and count...

Found on FB for sale: Tascam M-520 & Tascam MS-16

Hey, thanks for sharing your story, hope you dont mind if I tell my own: I got my MS-16 in 2021 in a similar fashion. I paid $400 for it in the custom built oak cabinet with the DBX units and ALL mogami snake cables to connect it to the M-520 I got a few weeks earlier from the same older man...

    Tascam MS-16 Isolation Cover

That’s true, when I was recording vocals with the Shure SM7B, no problem but my Neumann TLM103 picked up everything!

    Tascam MS-16 Isolation Cover

Honestly I’ve never felt the deck plate while in operation. I know it’s got a fan on the bottom and lots of air space for cooling below it. You’re right, the best thing might be to build a fold up version of a “GoBo” panel, as we used to call them in the studio, to block the machine while...

Found on FB for sale: Tascam M-520 & Tascam MS-16

If anyone is looking for these fantastic machines, these are two very minty versions I have found. These are not mine and I cannot guarantee them but I have spoken with both sellers and tempted to buy them but I have a minty version of both right now! Check them out: Tascam M-520 in Fayetteville...

    Tascam MS-16 Isolation Cover

I have a small studio and notice when recording with the Tascam MS-16, the motor noise can be picked up a little in my sensitive condenser mics. It’s subtle but it made me think that I could build an isolation cover for the top of the unit, which is where I predominately hear the noise, that...

    Tascam 244 Story…

Upon reading the service manual section on this, it looks like it may be a bit above my ”pay grade”! 🤪 I’m sure it’s likely easier than it reads but I’m not sure I have the gear or the experience to safely trudge my way through it. Hopefully someday I can find someone that specializes, locally...

    Tascam 244 Story…

Well, I got it back, cleaned it up best I could considering it’s questionable care history and it works pretty good! Cleaned the heads and I plan to demag them tomorrow, not sure if it needs any other ”tune up”. I have the service manual and plan to see if I can adjust the recording/playback...

Season’s Greetings & Happy New Year

I had a guy in Oklahoma build me the desk our of 3/4" pine ply, I painted and did the formica desktops, stained and poly'd the end caps (which no one really sees). He made it custom for my M-520 with plenty of rack space and storage. It works great, and I love having the full length padded arm...

    Tascam 244 Story…

I agree with you, without first hand visual or video, I can’t verify what he said either. He knows his stuff pretty well but this is a new unit to him and a little older than he has worked on for me in the past. He mainly focuses on my synthesizer repairs. He says it‘s working now, all...

    Tascam 244 Story…

UPDATE: My tech says it’s now working just fine. He thinks while cleaning and oiling that a smidge got on the capstan roller and that’s why. After a thorough cleaning, it’s working perfectly! I can’t wait to get it back and use it!

    Tascam 244 Story…

My friend measured the belt that came with the ebay set that appears to be slipping off when the motor is running. “The belt is 6mm wide, 1mm thick, and about 146mm long pressed flat on a table” He said he’d try to get a video of it soon. I’ll post when he does.

    Movie on Vocal Technique

I want to see this movie now, I love both Peter O’Toole (My Favorite Year is one of my favorites) and Jodie Foster. Looking forward to it. Peter O’Toole truly is in a class by himself, maybe only next to Sir Richard Harris and Sir Richard Burton in ability to be a highly functioning drunk...
