Electro Voice RE-20 Output compared to Shure SM7??

Hey all - I'm considering buying an EV RE-20 mic for VO work. I know they're frequently compared to the Shure SM7. My only concern is the output of the mic: I tried a Shure SM7B and it was highly unsuccessful for me: through my ART preamp, I struggled to get enough gain without hiss. I know a...

    Nasty High-Frequency "ringing"...Any DIY ideas??

Excellent, many thanks guys: it is indeed a flutter echo, having tried the things you suggest. SO: my plan is to build some screens of 703, and take it from there. Hopefully the screens will also allow me some freedom to record in other places, so it's worth the effort I think. I did indeed...

    Nasty High-Frequency "ringing"...Any DIY ideas??

Aaaaah, now I understand! You're right, I should have been more clear. It's not noise from an external source (fan, monitor etc), it's an echo from the voice. It's fairly slight, but for VO work it's irritating. The portable vocal booth has helped, but I need something else..... I'm...

    $200 LDC Mic that's NOT too Bright....Suggestions??

I'm looking for a budget LDC mic for vocals and VO stuff. I've been researching for a while now, but a common criticism of cheaper LDCs is that they're very bright. I'm looking for something erring on the side of warm: CERTAINLY not something over-bright sounding. Anyone got any suggestions...

    Good $200 preamp for a Shure SM7?

Good Question Posse - Yes I have a Lexicon Alpha, which I purposely chose because it's pretty much a barebones interface: I really would rather use a separate preamp. If the ART Voice Channel is recommended though, I'd probably use the interface built into that.....
