can anyone tell me what is the cheapest audio card with spdif in and out (coax)?
i blew my wad on a new aw4416 and a used computer which came with a vortex sq1500 sound card in it. the vortex has a spdif output but i cant get it to work.
i am almost broke now so recommendations for cheapest...
a friend just gave me a 475 mhz compact presario 5441 minus the hard drive and ram ... would it be worth it to buy a hard drive , ram and a sound card for the purpose of using sound forge or something like it? i would like to mix down from my aw4416 to sound forge for further editing

do you guys pan your overhead drum mics hard left and right? when i do this it sounds unnatural and cymbals and hihat are too "stereo" ... should i be panning them less hard? or maybe this is a phase issue ? i never had this problem with my old drum machine but live drums are a diffrent animal
this is probably a stupid question but...
am i to understand that setting the aux outs on my mixer to prefader is for monitor sends and postfader is for effects sends? or am i totally wrong here

anyone know how far i can run the cable from my analog rca outputs on my roland vs840 to my computer(for mixdown) before i start to lose sound quality? my recording space is in the basement and my computer is up stairs... can i just get a really long cable? or couple 2 together? or is this a bad...
im looking for a small cheap (under $100) mixer for some submixing...anyone ever used the phonic MM1202? price looks good but i wonder if anyone here has used this mixer and what they thought. i dont expect a whole lot from it.or should i go with a beringer...
im brand new to drum recording and i need to know how to place the overheads.i read tubedudes thread and i will try that method but i wonder if there is a standard way of doing this. what is X/Y?

i am using a pair of mxl 603's overhead and a 57 for snare and a beta 52 for kick...
i have 350 $ to spend on drum mics... anyone want to recommend something decent at that price? i already have a 57 and a 58 and an at4033 i was thinkin maybe a kick mic and a couple of cheap overheads???? whatdya think...
in sound forge when i save an mp3 it always saves at 64kbps even if the original file is 128 ,160 or higher... when i "save as" i can choose the quality but if i just "save" then it automatically goes to 64.
my question is can i change this somehow? maybe to save everything at 320kbps...
