I've gone nuts a couple times and used the Recorderman method with close mics on everything including snare bottom and a room mic in front of the kit. But that was only to see how it sounded... which was good btw :)
I've owned 1/4" 8 tracks and 1/2" 16 tracks. I really think they sound great especially on drums and well pretty much everything else :) But I don't mind stuff sounding lo-fi that much.

Excactly. You can use gates and stuff if you please. Expieriementing with placement is a fun part of recording.
I've tried drumagog and it is actually pretty fun to mess around with, but it feels like "auto tune for drums" sorta. What's really neat is getting sounds that are totally different .
I've used em on snare with limited sucess. I think maybe it has more gain than a real sm57??

Ick, everytime I've recorded someone who wants to do drums last I kinda cringe. The drums don't "breathe" in the song usually... I've only heard a few people do it and have it sound alright.
e609 works for my havy big muff sounding stuff. I like the e609 condensor combo aswell the condensor could be anything from an AT 4033, Pro37 or whatever. I like using my 57 on clean guitars more though.

I've used the C1 for vocals and it works really well. Everyone who I've recorded using it loves how clear their voice sounds. I've also used it as a room mic on drums with exceptional results.
I'm using the D112 on the kick right now. sm57 on snare (of course) and Audio Technica Pro-37's OH's.... I Just switched from 16 track analog to a digital setup so alot of things sound different to me... I was never ever satisfied with my Tom mics to begin with.
