Oh yeah They don't come with one, but some of these "adventurous" guys have installed hard drives on their out-of-warranty VS-840s. It must be 2.1 gig or less, and the 840 will recognize it as a normal drive, with 539 minutes of record time. Here's a thread that describes the process...

Dude- You've got eight tracks, so why not put the kick and snare on separate tracks, and use two mics for stereo overheads. (tracks 1,2,3&4) The whole band can play, but you only record the drums. Then you can bounce the drums to a stereo pair (5&6), and you'll still have the original tracks...

Yep... There are upgrades, I think the vs-880 can take up to a 6 gig, 2.5 laptop drive. Might only use like, 4 gigs, and you may have to upgtade the OS to a more recent version. 540 MB was the original hard drive, the smallest available on that unit. ___________ wawazzat? Really...it's a great...

What to do.... I like to use "Stereo Multi" effect to apply reverb to the entire mix. I'm not too impressed with the compressors in the VS-840, so if you have an outboard compressor, you can use that, but go sparingly. A little goes a long way. It's usually necessary to EQ each individual...
