Just one word of caution. When the volatile solvents evaporate, they can leave a varnish like deposit. I have heard of the internal workings of some equipment (not electronic) being locked up from years of using this stuff. It is great on cars, but I wouldn't use it on fine moving parts.

There are demagnetizing tapes, sort of. I went to Radio Shack to look for a head demagnetizer and what they had was a demagnetizer in cassette form. No tape, just electronics, including a little battery, all in what looks like the body of a regular cassette.

Did you read through the manual carefully? I was visiting a friend this weekend and he has a 424 that he hadn't used in a while. It took us quite some time to figure out that we needed to use the manual. When we followed the directions step by step we got what we wanted.

I recently acquired a Tascam Porta 07. It came without a user's manual. I understand that this model was replaced by the 414. What are the main differences between the 07 and the 414 other than the direct mic and guitar inputs?
