    Record in 24 bit with 44.1 OR 88.2 OR 192 ?

"The quality of the silence" was the reason given by a prominent engineer when discussing sample rates. If there is none in the song then the response of your favorite convertors and plugins to higher rates might be the only reason to increase rates. Not the same but it was explained like...

    Windows 7 is solid

I've got the same setup. My music computer Win7/64 is offline after I did some updating one sleepy night and lost Melodyne 3 because of a C+ update. I'm not computer savvy enough to fix it so I have a nice cheaper laptop for online now. For now I'm done downloading, my system works, I can...

    New (oldish) tune - "Undone"

Really enjoyed the "live" ish feel to the mix. Refreshing with all the slick stuff out there these days. Still play your "Unfinished Book" tune, really one of best I've heard here. SoundCloud - Hear the world’s sounds

2017...whats everyones fav Vocal rack gear...hardware? software? clean or crunchy?

Thanks for the listen. That is actually a TLM 49 into a BAE DMP 1073 with a bit of DBX 160 to tame the transients. You're right about the reverb. Maybe it's old ears but when mixing the amount sounds fine but listening later it sounds like way too much. Ear fatigue is no doubt a real...

2017...whats everyones fav Vocal rack gear...hardware? software? clean or crunchy?

For classic rock/pop with a little color/focus, we use the BAE DMP1073 that also doubles as a great direct box. That goes into a DBX 160 compressor with just a little taming of transients. When clean is the scene, we fire up our old DBX576 Channel Strip which has NOS tubes and sounds great for...

Cubase 9 - I missed the implication of being 64 bit only for stability

I've stopped upgrading Cubase at Pro 8 after I lost the use of Nebula when I demoed 8.5 on a friends computer. Being a songwriter/musician first and an engineer by default, I try to spend my valuable time making tunes. As long as Pro 8 keeps working (no doubt it will run into a snag down the...

How many of you use pitch correction for your own vocals?

Been lucky enough to make some dough writing jingles and some soundtrack tunes. It is extremely competitive and sometimes you have to leave your personal preferences at the door. Your vocals better be in tune and sometimes deadlines, etc. cause you to reach for a tuning tool to fix a note here...

    What about EV RE20?

Awhile back we recorded an entire album with EV RE20 as the main vocal mic and we had lots of choices. In fact you mentioned a DBX 286, we settled on an old DBX 576 as the main preamp and it sounded great. It can do the job! TKeefe | Terry Keefe | Free Listening on SoundCloud

How I built a large following on SoundCloud

First of all, it was never my intention to make dough off my music having already had a career but I used to do a variation on all that work. I'd set aside every Saturday morning to just listening, liking, and commenting which brought a nice group of loyal followers. You could see pretty...

New line of 3U Audio mics from a veteran audio engineer...worth a look and listen!

I'm in with both feet, waiting to sell one of my TM2s and the dough is heading to Australia. I'm interested in his GZ line. I need a 251 inspired mic for female client after the first of the year. TKeefe | Terry Keefe | Free Listening on SoundCloud

Condenser Mic for Vocal Recommendation Under $1500

In the under $1500 price range there are a lot steals in the used market if you can go that route. Blue Kiwi, Neumann TLM49, Pearlman TM2 all under a $1K and some well under. If you want a Neumann, do check out the used TLM49 before spending any dough on the 102 or 103. We use the Pearlman...

Tascam 388 update - Help needed please!

I have an old one sitting here, you've given me hope. I'll have to take another look at my old best buddy over the holidays! Unfortunately my old masters are shedding like crazy and the tape heads clog up fast. New tape, starting over will probably work and I'll just have to let the twenty year...

Life is funny sometimes - Tascam 388 or Fostex 80?

My old band made several records with the Studio 8. I still have it here but the transport needs work and all my old masters have started to shed (my fault, I'm sure). Before going digital I was going to purchase another and a pristine Studio 8 came available, practically new in the box but it...

BIG SALE on Slate SSD4 and Trigger and epansion packs!

The only issue I've ever had with SSD is the GUI which can't be resized if you don't have a hi res laptop screen. When playing drums I always want my laptop there and not have to setup the tower. Buying a new laptop really makes the package expensive to use. TKeefe | Free Listening on SoundCloud

Waves IR-1 on sale today for $99

Good points, probably the only reason to buy another brand is the included IRs like Altiverb has a huge library but so expensive but on sale, the included IRs are good. There are a lot of others like the Bricasti IRs that are better. TKeefe | Free Listening on SoundCloud
