    Jumping the CPU ship

So, after dumping my AKAI dps 16 (from 1999-2010) and hopping onboard the "USS Computer glitch-lockup-crash-shut down-freeze up", I decided to cut loose an orange inflatable raft and start rowing. I didn't stop rowing until I reach Tascam sd24 Island. And I love it here! Comfortable, warm...

Debating on selling my Tascam 388 and I'm torn...

what to do, what to do??? My 2Cents: transfer all the tracks from any tapes you have and sell it. Getting those tracks or having access is what you will regret.

Why hi-hat always need panning but not the vocal?

try to not pan and see what happens. Experiment. Most listeners are never close enough to the stage to hear the cymbals on the left and right side of their brain. The less you pan instruments, the further away the mix will appear and more than likely will sound more "together".

Save your cash. Buy Karma D-10. About $150 pair. In a recent shootout against the KM 184, 75% chose the Karma...no choice there

    Guitar picks, whaddya use???

Guitar picks I was fortunate to have performed for 5 years, 50 weeks a year at a live music venue, so I experimented a lot with picks. I had always used Tortex .50 or .60. One night I was about to go onstage for an SRV number (a tribute) and I was scrambling in my dressing room trying to...

Pressing the G String too hard on my Les Paul

I have played since 1977. Taught over 200 students. Play professionally. This is an inherent problem with Les Paul and SG. Because the string length is slightly shorter than Fender, the intonation is more delicate, therefore playing it in tune is harder. This is why time and time again I...

    Integrating daw and Akai

Well, i can actually dump the wave files to a disc and from the scsi drive and just load them into the computer, so that's not an issue. I just wondered if all the software out there was designed to import wave files and then let me edit them. Guess my question was answered though. Thanks

    Drummer's perspective, or audiences?

mixing drums If i want a Spector Wall Of Sound, I'll barely pan at all. If i want an intimate studio feel, pan hard. Want it to sound like a auditorium of big room? Pan 10/2. Depends on the production and vision

    Integrating daw and Akai

Guys, I've been using a Akai DPS 16 track for years. i took a break and got into a studio using Samplitude software. needless to say, I loved it! Now I'm back to my Akai and want to be able to dump the tracks from Akai into a designated computer so I can cut/Paste/edit/do a little eq and...

    What's Better

tracking instruments Ok, try this since it sounds like you have a newbie totally inexperienced. In order to let him save face and let you do your job, tell him "I promise you the final mix will be done on a single stereo mix, but with my equipment I really need to record separate tracks. That...

    micing snare with sm57

snare Just try to compress the hell out it. That will really bring out some tones you will never hear otherwise. play it harder too. Recording the snare is one of the hardest things to get right and there's a reason most major studios are still using high end compressors....they work! Try...

Not new to this, but still can't get good sounds..

micing the cab I don't know if you do this but....set the 57 right on the mesh of the cab right off center of the cone. SLightly angled. Then when yu record, you really need to push the amp. the 57 is a workhorse and likes a hot signal. Set the Sennheiser a few feet away aimed right at the...
