    Help please! on 20x35 room

make sure you use 2 panes of glass of differing thickness, that way the glass won't resonate at the same frequency as the other sheet of glass.

    AKG 414, AT 4050 or?

I use both quite a bit and personally find that the at4050 is better at male vocals. But both mics are capable of getting great results. They're both just not mics that'll give you goosebumps right away ... but i love both.

Ratio control on a noise gate

hi, our ears are better at detecting if a signal has gone from full-on to total silence than from full-on to attenuated to a certain amount. By using that ratio control you can make the noise gate less obvious, while at the same time getting rid of a lot of noise. Note that most of the time you...

help me chose, or just burn my choices to the ground

hi, i also find that the md421 has a bit more high end when i compare it to say a md441 or sm57 but there's nothing that a good eq can't solve. I have used md421 for just about everything you can imagine and it always sounded fine after some eq. It's just a very versatile microphone with a very...

    Gain Controls x 3

uhhmmmm..... Why "must" that external pre have to go through that mixer (monitoring)? And doesn't that 828 have any line ins? the best way to use an external pre is to just plug it's line out directly into the AD converter. That way you have the cleanest signal path. Why don't you use the...

help me chose, or just burn my choices to the ground

big kenny is right. I'd personally choose a good condenser or a good dynamic as a good allrounder rather than a ribbon. My personal favorite all rounder (and my deserted island mic) would be a sennheiser MD421.

help me chose, or just burn my choices to the ground

hi there, i own (or have owned) all of the above mics except the beyer m160. If it were you're first mic i'd go for the at4033, but i'd probably save a little and get the 4040/4047 or save some more and get the 4050. I sold my 4033 because i needed the money to buy other gear and i still...

    people in "electronic" bands

hi, i'm the sound-guy for a dutch electropoppunk band called Matik ( www.matik.nl ) and what we do is send the beats out separatly from all the synths into 2 stems mixes so that i can adjust them with eq to the room of the venue. And that's about it.. everything else is done with vst(i) plugs...

    The Taming of the Shure

hmmmm i think i'm gonna give this one a go. but i have to say that i don't really see why i would want more brightness out of sm57 because i usually use sm57's if i want to tame something that is overly bright... (screaming vox, guitars turned up to 11, etc) But hey if you haven't tried it...

    UAD-1 -vs- TC Powercore

at the moment the general consensus is that the reverbs are better on the powercore and the comps are better on the uad-1(excluding the plate 140 plug) . Personally i own a uad-1 . But i have some experience with the plugs included with the powercore. And i can only say that they are right ...

    fender Red Knob "the Twin"

hello, i own a fender red knob the twin (converted to top so the tube layout picture isn't in the cabinet any more) but i don't own a manual for one. i'm trying to find out in which sockets the 12at7 tubes go. There have to be 2 12at7 tubes in there but i only have 1 in mine. If someone owns...
