Got this UBS microscope for looking closely at a molded composite part I'm working on. It's cool to be able to snap off a close shot like this and then send it via e-mail for someone to reference. I'm always amazed by the things that are commonplace today that weren't even CONCEIVABLE 40 years...

Sad Lisa - Cat Steven's cover

Here's a preliminary mix of this one. I was going to add bass but I also like it without. The lead guitar is basically triple tracked with panned delay on one of them...might have laid it on too thick. Maybe I'll add something at the end so there's something to fade out. I had trouble matching...

The middle unit (black) is a Line 6 POD HD PRO X....which is the latest. It's a guitar processor that also works as a sound card. The Boss RC-300 on the floor came just before that. Both very cool.

Getting the basics - some help for someone new to mixing!

An envelope is simply a segment dynamically edited for volume. By "dynamically"...I mean that it isn't simply a gain or boost applied to a selection....but rather...a fade or rise over time...or combination thereof. In this case a segment of audio (a blob) is louder than the rest of the...

Stu and Kev - "Fred is Dead"

That made me laugh because I made it sound like that with EQ. I was was going for a heartbeat and the kick coming out of the sample sounded like...a kick. Note the heartbeat stops on the fadeout. I wanted people to hear Nietzsche's heart stop....and not start again. It was a dig at Kevin in...

    Ruben Lopez

This one was done quite a while ago...when I had a studio. I just looked at the .mp3 properties and found that this one is 7 years old....lol...I need some new material. I'm putting a new studio together now but I thought I'd put up a few older mixes until I do something new in the new room...

    Need Stero recording adevice :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cHeNscKZN0 Yes...there's a commercial before this clip...but we're used to that....right? I have that very same set of stereo matched mics...and had good success using them closer together and not quite so far away. Rob said it. You have an unnatural sound...

What? You Don't LIKE Ground Noise?

Google "galvanic skin potential". For those who record electric guitars...whether through mic'ing or going direct...we all know the frustration of dealing with intermittent ground noise due to fingers touching (or not touching - as the case may be) the strings. This eliminates the issue...

Greetings All - Don't Know Why (Nora Jones Cover)

My studio has been down for quite a while now but it's up and running again...mostly. I recorded this about a year ago without the studio. It's fairly crude but I'm posting it as an introduction with hopes of producing more music soon. I have Nora in my music rotation out in my shop. I can't NOT...
