Regarding discharging capacitors.... (and disclaimers also apply that electricity can kill you, so be careful and I am not responsible for your actions or errors).
When I was actively repairing televisions, I had many occasions to work with the high voltage section. I made a shorting device...
I've always been told (as Sweetbeats mentioned) that everything should have the same ground reference. Small differences between grounds can carry stray low-level signals, which can sometimes appear in your audio circuits... not a good thing.

sweetbeats,
I went back into my Tascam M-520 files ( I have a LOT) to see if I could reference my conversation with Mouser. So far, I have found no documentation regarding my previous conversation with them. I believe it was a phone call rather than an email regarding the connectors, and I may...
I remember you mentioning that some time ago. I seem to recall contacting Mouser about these parts. The reply was something like a minimum purchase of the components was required, which I believe totaled over $500. They would not sell one or two, but wanted to unload the entire inventory.

I think I will hang it from the dining room ceiling light until it...
Dave,
I have one of these machines and the tech info on this unit from Teac. I have the circuit description booklet, 4-page fold-out schematic, parts list booklet, and service manual booklet. If there is something I can scan or reference that will help you, let me know.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this. I may make templates and drawings of the parts when I get it, so I can produce a second one for my other M-520.

I SHOULD be buying this! I have a MINT M-520... as in NEVER been connected up or used at all, in beautiful condition. It was a gift from a friend and fellow studio guy. Look like it was sealed in a vacuum since new. Actually this one was covered up and sat into a custom desk, in a studio that...
