    Audience Recording

Sorry - neglected to mention that I cannot hang mics, due to restrictions on the venue. 2 ME66's and various dynamic cards (SM57 etc ). But purchasing could be an option - I'm always looking to justify new things ;). Anyway, I am intrigued by the 2-pair setup suggested by BigRay. I have to...

    Audience Recording

So kind of a weird question, but I figured I'd ask it here cause there's some smart peoples here. I am in a position where I have to mic/record basically an entire audience. The goal is for the audience to be able to ask questions to the stage, WITHOUT having to be passed a mic or anything...

Amp modeller? Which one for me!?

I use Line6 exclusively for modelling - got a Flextone II XL for guitar and a BassPODxt for (you guessed it) bass. My advice would be to get a Line6 PODxt over the Behringer - though I haven't personally heard the Behringer, I guarantee Line6 put more time and effort into their modelling than...

    Fireface Flashing LEDs Problem...

Lies! I am full of lies! Even with the clock mode changed, I got the problem again a couple days later. And after like 2 weeks of anger, I found the REAL problem - a Sony DVMC-DA2 that I had hooked up to the front Firewire port of my G5. Since all the Firewire ports (400 + 800) share the same...

    RME Fireface 800 question?

I think what you're talking about is the ability, via software, to use the Ins/Outs as inserts. If so, then the routing is done within TotalMix or your native app (Cubase, Logic, etc). Do you have a link to where it specifically talks about inserts with the Fireface?

    Mackie: HR824 vs HR624

Ethan, Great to hear. I'm especially concerned about the low frequencies, as I would be using them for sound-for-picture work, as well as music. And I would definitely like to avoid getting a sub if possible. I have heard the "too much bass" shortcoming a lot with the 824's, as stated by...

    Mackie: HR824 vs HR624

Does anyone have any experience with Mackie HR624 monitors? I've used 824's and love them (great low end), and the 624's advertise the same sound in a more compact design, but I don't know if I buy that. Anyone with firsthand experience? Edit: Yes, I realize that the published specs have the...

    Fireface Flashing LEDs Problem...

Fixed it - make sure you set the clock to "Master" instead of "Autosync" if you're not syncing to another piece of gear. This doesn't really matter on the PC side, but seems to make all the difference on Mac.

    Fireface Flashing LEDs Problem...

So I just decided to switch my Fireface over to my G5 from my WinXP box. Easy, huh? I thought so too. So I installed the latest drivers, attached the Fireface (it was detected correctly), and flashed the firmware to the latest for Mac (1.83). Everything seemed fine, until I opened up Cubase...

    Behringer Utragain Pro 8

I've got a UB mixer with the same preamps - as said before, not the best in the world, but more than usable, esp if you're on a budget. I've never had any huge complaints about them.

    What's YOUR guitar rig like?

I'm not a minimalist. Customized Ibanez (fitted with switches and a button, 7 different pickup combos) goes into Digitech Whammy pedal, then into Line6 Flextone. Flextone handles most of the tone, and is controlled via floorboard controller. FX loop of Line6 goes through Powerbook, running...

Do you know the note names on the fretboard?

I have no idea what note I'm playing at any given time - I just do it by ear. Guess I'm "not worth a shit." :D

    Is this vocalist outta tune?

Completely agree with Perdicament - flat quite a bit, but definitely potential, and needs more power in the performance. It almost sounds like she's holding back.

    Any opinions on Carvin neck??

Agreed with apl - tung oil is the way to go. And if you ding it, just sand and oil again, and it's good as new. If the natural finish isn't your thing, Rockler sells a nice tung oil/dye combo. I put a Carvin neck on a Les Paul copy body, made the neck black with the Rockler oil, and it's awesome.

    Help with home studio setup?

I'll just comment on the Bass issue - if your Ibanez isn't the most amazing $300 bass ever, then I'd say pick up a BassPOD. My feeling is (and true bass guys, correct me if I'm wrong) - you only really wanna go the direct recording route if you have a great bass and a great direct box. Now, I...
