I would buy a bass guitar and record DI for my own compositions but I question whether or not my monitoring gear is "good enough". I'm not a professional - it's a hobby - so I don't want to spend heaps of money.
I currently find that when I'm recording 6-string electric guitar (drop-tuned to C)...
OK, here are 3 tracks:
1) Dry recording
2) GR5 applied, no EQ
3) EQ applied after GR5
Its not fantastic but I reckon there's a definite improvement.
I don't know if its actually possible to apply EQ before the Insert on Cubase 5 but its something I'll have to check out. Here's my EQ settings...
I have listened to loads of Youtube videos showing how fantastic various Petrucci/Vai/Satriania lead patches sound. I've downloaded them and no matter patch I use, I get tinny sound that is far from the warm tones heard in the Youtube videos.
I have tried various amp sims over the years but...
