I had the same problem once, but i belive it was down to the tape itself. It completely chewed the tape up, however i tried it with a fresh tape and it worked completely fine and has done since.

Recently bought a Tascam 424mkii in order to record lo-fi EP's and just get ideas down quickly. And i was just wondering if any expieirienced users could offer me some advice on achieving a better quality (clarity and space of mix... probably jst my bad mixing) mix clarity and just general tips...

Any general tips/tricks for recording on this? How can i make the stereo imaging wider? I feel the mixes are generally quite narrow... I am a noob to the 424, just bought it for getting ideas down quickly/making lo-fi ep's etc etc thanks
