    Bigger Drive for 788

Also, does anyone know if an ATA 133 drive is OK to use? The last update on the Tascam FAQ was in Feb. 2002. They don't mention ATA 133's, and I'm a computer dullard that doesn't know much about this stuff at all.

    Bigger Drive for 788

I remember back on the old Tascam bbs some people were swapping out their hardrives on their 788's for much larger ones. Does anyone know which ones were deemed to be the best? I know that low heat and noise are pretty critical requirements. Any info would be appreaciated.

    Tascam.com: I KNEW it

It would be nice if they could at least archive it somewhere. Even that would be useful as most of the time a simple search would answer my questions. I doubt that'll happen. :(

Thanks for the heads up, rjt. I've started looking at the cakewalk link; it looks like a good primer.

    Midi Tutorial

Hi, Can anyone suggest a good book that can teach me what I need to know about midi, from basics to more advanced stuff? As a guitarist, I haven't worked much with it, but I find myself needing to do so more and more all the time. Thanks!

    Mic Channel Strips

What gives with all of these mic channels that are on the market? In addition to the obvious usage of a mic preamp, so many have compressors, de-essors, exciters, EQ's and such for processing a signal going into the board. I understand that a little compression might be needed to get a hot...

    4033 preamp needed?

I've been looking at the 788 myself. On the Tascam forum they say that they do not have phantom power. But I'm thinking that having a nice preamp with a tube is going to help warm up the sound, I bet that is crucial on these lower end digital machines. Plus a mic pre could probably be used with...

    Mic needs considered

Thanks Bruce. It will be a while before I set anything in stone. I'll take your hint and run a search; that should be helpful.

    Mic needs considered

Thanks for all of the advice. Whew, there's a lot of it too! I'm going to stick to buying a stand-alone recorder for now; my computer is an older notebook that isn't easily adapted for recording purposes. I do like the idea of a recorder that is easily mobile with the feel of a mixing board. I...

    Mic needs considered

I have a general question I'd like to throw out to all of you. I'm in the process of buying an 8 track digital recorder to use as a musical sketch pad and to gain experience in the process of recording. My question is: What sort of mics would be useful for me? I'll be mostly recording electric...

Tascom 788 vs Roland VS 880EX

Hi Everyone, My name's Snagglefinger, a guitarist/bassist/struggling singer, and I'm new to the world of home recording. I'm planning on purchasing a digital workstation soon. I've been mostly intrigued by the Roland VS 880EX but a trusted salesman at a local music store recommended the Tascom...
