There are pretty good arguments for using hardware as well as just plugins after a good preamp. Some hardware units sound amazing but if you record with a hardware unit you're stuck with the sound. If you record clean and use plugins afterwards you can try a variety of different sounds with...
I think if you're mixing stuff with a lot of low end a sub is always a good idea. The 8xl goes down to 35hz which is pretty good, but I think it's always best to have a sub dedicated for the low end.
I think double-tracking typically involves a short delay which gives a fuller sound. Using two mics might not get you the exact effect but I think recording in stereo with different mic placements is better than doubling a track. Just me though.
Anyone try it out? Used to be only available with Mercury bundle but they made it available as a separate product now. I'm going to download the demo when my computer's back from the shop (blown power supply on a G5 iMac). 50% off in July when you own one of the other bundles, Gold and up...
I thought the only difference between the 4 and 6 pin connections was that the 6 pin provided power as well but there wasn't anything different in transfer rates. The speed of the firewire connection (FW400/FW800) should be the only spec that matters. I think.
There isn't really a problem of not hearing distortion while you play if you run the guitar direct and put a distortion plugin on the channel while you're recording. The guitar will record clean but the live output will be distorted.
I'm fine with people looping parts as part of a show. I don't mean playing with pre-recorded tracks, but if a guitarist wants to play two guitar parts I don't mind if they loop one and play the second throughout the song. It's true that you can mess up a lot when you're looping so there is a...
You've lost me a bit here. If the level is in the mid range when it's recorded it should be at the same level when it play back unless you have any other volume changes applied or plugins that effect the level. When you get clipping in playback is it only the bass drum track that you're...
I'd think RAM might be your best bet. And check to make sure your system is clean and running at it's full potential. Possibly wipe the OS and re-install. I find Windows slows down a ton after a while. Also make sure that your settings in the recording program are set to have minimum latency...
Anyone know if it works. NI released Guitar Rack Producer Edition, which comes with their Kontrol interface. If I can record at the same time with that and my m-audio in PT 7 it would be worth picking up to get a couple extra recording tracks. If not I'll likely just go with the software only...
