Help with recording choir - micing

Thanks Guys for the advice, tonights the night. I picked up one pair of AKG C535's and one pair of AKG C430's (and I still have the ECM8000s). I guess I'll try ORTF with the 535's and a spaced pair with the ECM8000s. I want to keep it to two pairs of mics. Probably will not use the 430s...

Help with recording choir - micing

Thanks guys for your responses. I think I will try to get a decent pair of SDCs with the XY setup described. Bigmark, I do have a pair of PZM's but have never heard of that method, or of the omni's placed on the floor either. I have enough channels that I can try that method simultaneously...

Help with recording choir - micing

Hi Folks, could use some help with mic selection and technique. I'm going to be recording a 45 member ladies barbershop choir (Sweet Adelines) later this month. They have a 3 level riser with a semi-circular radius, and it will be done in a large dining hall with high ceilings. Its not a...

    "Guitar Player" or "Guitar One"

I have received GP for years off and on. It is a bit stuffy, and old-fogish but I found it decent value. It won't likely appeal to a teen though, with interviews with the likes of Allan Holdsworth (who?) and Jeff Beck. They have done some really good gear shoot-outs / reviews over the years...

    Splitting a guitar signal?

Boss LS-2 Line Switcher will allow you to run A, B or A+B. There are few different switching modes. There are separate level controlls for each output. Its quiet, has a 9v output for other pedals and isn't too expensive.

    Planning on a HWY1 Stratocaster

The Highway One "Stratocaster HSS" features the larger headstock and older syncro trem.

    Recording a Harmonica

OK thanks, I'll try that method. Nothing else has worked too well. (I think we have one of those in-line Z-converters around somewhere from the days when we used to have to plug mics into whatever we could find for a PA).

Quick Idiotic Question from A Dumkoff

So you figured it out then? It is pretty simple (its called an insert cable) Like this right? http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--HOSSTP20

    Recording a Harmonica

OK - so do you go from the 58 to a preamp first, then feed the pre-output to the guitar amp? Or - do you use one of those low-Z to high-Z transformers and plug the mic right into the amp? I've always had terrible issues with feedback / gain staging when trying to feed an amp with a mic being...

    Sennheiser E835 VS Shure SM58

I have both, but I always try to make sure the E835 is on my stand! It works better for my wife's voice too. HOWEVER - our bassist / main vocalist has a VERY loud voice and the 58 sounds better on him.

    fender amps? bassmans, twins, etc.

Any of the 2x6L6 combos would be awsome (and just to correct, the Pro Reverb is not solid state rectified until the mid 70's). A Deluxe Reverb would work for most people too. Check out early Silverface models, most have the very similar build to the Blackface models at lower prices. If you...

    Gibson Firebird?

I would say any genuine Gibson is worth the $200E, and can be made playable. Those mini humbuckers make nice rhythm sounds. I've never played a Firebird but always thought they looked cool. That "other guitar player" from Oasis often plays one, and it sounds good.

    Guitar Picks

I like George L picks but can't often find them. You can really grip them, but they are not too hard. Other than that I usually stick with the Dunlop 0.60mm I break too many strings playing rhythm with a really stiff pick. Sometimes I go with the Dunlop Stubby's or Wedge .73mm if I want a...
