What to trust...monitors or consumer speakers?

I would personally recommend trying to learn your monitors and still use the other set to check on as well. Definitely take some other material, preferably in a similar genre and listen through both setups. This should help give you an idea of where each setup is lying to you. Randy

    bouncng down ruins mixes.

Have you tried printing vs. bouncing and see if they null? I have personally tested this with PT HD 6 and 7 and PT m-powered 6.8, 7.0 7.1 and 7.3. They have all nulled. You will certainly get a slightly different stereo image going through a console usually due to panning law or possibly the...

    bouncng down ruins mixes.

So let me see if I understand what you are trying to state correctly.. You have a mix up in PT ( I assume this is the daw you are using if not please identify it) and you listen to it. I also assume that this is a mix done "in the box" NOT through any outboard gear ie. outboard...

    bouncng down ruins mixes.

Not this shit again.....Next someone will claim they can "hear" the difference between two files that null......

Is this handling noise typical of other SDC's?

Gain 0 And Still Peaking!!! Help!!!

The fw1814 does have a software control panel it does NOT however have an option to change from -10dbv to +4dbu. The fw1814 line input are unbalanced -10dbv and outside of modding the box is going to change that. Randy (edited for clarity)

Gain 0 And Still Peaking!!! Help!!!

If you are using the line inputs on the back ( which as you indicated seems to be the case) then the controls on the front for 1 & 2 for the fw1814 are bypassed as is mic pre. are you using a trs or xlr to trs cable? The reason I ask is the line inputs on the fw1814 are unbalanced at -10dbv ...

    Pro Tools Torubles

A friend was playing with the demo. I was showing him how to use it. Came across the same issue. I assumed that it was for the mentioned reasons. To test it you can set the input to a physical I/O and enable the record button , as soon as you change it to a bus the record arm button goes gray...

    Pro Tools Torubles

On the demo you cannot set the input to an aux bus without it unarming (and greying out) the rec button. I assume that is to keep folks from using the demo to do full mixes ( as in recording the full song down to stereo instead of bouncing) it works as you think it should on a nondemo...

    Presonus Firestation interface

I would recommend keeping it and using it via adat with the fw1814 to give you 16 inputs and 12 outputs in protools. works for me Randy

Ok, 3630, the best comp ever made......

Anyone here tried any of the 3630 mods and heard the results? I bought one on the cheap recently and plan to mod it in the next couple months. I am going to try to do some before and after tests. Any recommendations on the most practical way to do reasonably accurate before and after. I was...

    Not Another Mic Pre Thread!

would like to point out that if you buy the whole kit at SCA ; a chassis kit a power supply and a preamp kit you get a discount that is practically a free power supply. You can get a chassis kit, power supply and a n72 kit for 625.00 total. Great sounding preamp I might add. I tested them...

    High End Time!

If you purchase a chassis kit , power supply and a preamp kit all at once from seventh circle you get the power supply for free. 625 for all three. the N72 sounds great. I compared it to the 1272's we have at work and I ( and 5 other engineers ) all believe it is close enough. And the great...

    Need your help Please

24 bit audio in theory will provide you with 144 db of dynamic range where as 16 bit only give you 96 db of dynamic range. This of course is in a perfect world. In action you usually get a bit less. more like 80ish in 16 bit and more like 115-120 ish in the 24 bit department. Dynamic range...
