    Tubes...more specifically...GT tubes.

Tubes are like tires on a car they need to be replaced regularly. I change out my tubes at least every 6 months if not sooner. 12AX7 gt's suck IMHO, all they are is chinese crap. JJ makes great tubes. In most instances microphonics are found in pre-amp tubes and not power tubes. You might want...

    Tube Swapping In Mics...

FYI Telefunken USA uses the 6072A GE J.A.N (joint army navy) tubes in there mics. They seem to sound really good. Tube swapping does really help especially in a tube mic that is 10 or more years old. As for a new mic you will see some difference, but beware the tube people can hype the hell...

    Best Mic for 200$-300$

Dude the NT1-A by Rode is awesome for $200.00, especially on male vocals. I used this mic for a couple of years and liked it more than mics I have that cost upwards of $1,000.00. I did use a very high-end mic-pre which helps the tone of the mic greatly. I would recommend using a tube pre-amp...

    NOS tube replacement for VTB-1?

I haven't done anyhting on that mic but I have replaced tubes in other mics and it really does make a huge difference. The tubes used in todays mics are usually very cheap Russian or Chinese products. I found a place here in my hometown that has 12AX7 Telefunken smooth plates which I think are...

    Mic for Soft Vocal!!

I would recommend the same mic "comingsecond" did. Although, I am tired of hearing and talking about those Marshall mics. Everybody wants to get a great mic for $150.00 or less. No offense Dracon, I have one myself. I got lucky enough to try out twenty or so and pick the one that sounded best...

    Tom mics

I don't think he is saying that he is recording more than 2 toms with only 2 mics, but what he said is that he sub mixed the toms into a stereo track. That in my book could be one of the problems. Maybe having different gates at different freqs on different toms would be better for you. Why...

    Tom mics

Mad Audio sorry in my last reply I forgot to mention gates do not totally get rid of bleed they lessen it. Most gates let you pick and choose what freq to cut out at, so if are noticing too much bass or cymbal then you set your gate accordingly.

    Tom mics

Bleed is bad when you get too much bass drum, snare, or cymbals on your tom tracks. I am sure we have all been there! Mad Audio if you gate later thru a plug-in you have a different dynamic. What you are doing now isn't working, right? Just imagine 15 years before Pro Tools people had to trust...

Where to buy speaker components for home stereos (15" woofers, crossovers, etc)

The best place I have found reasonably priced is www.tubesandmore.com They have a few different lines of speakers at all price ranges.

    Tom mics

Bleed with the SM57? That seems odd. You will be getting more bleed using the other mics you mentioned. The 57 is very unidirectional. I've used the e604's and those sound great, but I noticed a little more bleed than the 57's. You might not need new mics but maybe a good noise gate/comp...

    What's the best compressor?

I tried that compressor a year or two ago. I did not like it at all. Behringer is crappy Chinese parts with bad engineering, IMHO. Compressors are probably the hardest piece of outboard gear to find. I have found that when buying a cheap compressor you are usually going to get a bad sounding...

    Ideal Length for cables?

I don't agree with boingoman about his 300ft remark. I remember at a gig I ran a 100ft cable from my Korg amp and it sounded noisy and weak. I always read and heard that using more than 20 feet of cable can cause some signal dissipation. In live settings it may not be very noticeable or maybe...
