thanx for the replys guys thanx for the replys guys, go myself an amp today, gonna be playing through the Rogers to see what they're like! Thanks for all the advise, do I really have to endure 'commercial' music????? ;) Apparently the Rogers are BBC designed speakers as 'reference monitors'...

    stereo mic, or matched pair?

I tried a Blumlein pair with two AKG 414's the other day and that was ACE! very 'cultured' open sound, I was miking up an upright piano and it just sang! I also tried an ORTF with very similar results but nit quite as nice. chris :D

    Studio monitoring - Help wanted

Hi all, Im trying to set myself a little project studio and want some decent monitors to help with mixing. I have a modest budget of £250 and basically am totally perplexed by the talk of crossover frequencies etc. my room is rather small (probably 8'/10') so I know that bass build up might be...

    editing

YES! If you're using a digital system then you could just automate it! i.e. drop the volume for the sweasring to zero and back up again immediately afterwards - Very easy to do on Pro tools not sure about other DAW's

    Masters

Cheers Cheers for any and all help on the masters front. Will be looking into it! ..."Never Heard of Shure"... wow! 57 & 58 are very robust, fairly cheap (£70) dynamic (moving coil) mics. not a great high end response, worth having in your collection though (P.S the Beta 57/58 are much nicer...

Building project studio got some questions

I run a G4 mac mini with a 002 Rack. I would advise you to get a G5 if possible. I have had very little trouble with my mini / PT at low / mid sample rates, but @ 96Khz it gets a bit spluttery. Again if I have >15 tracks all with real time compression, EQ etc this too is spluttery. G4 is...

    question about editing

GET NEW FRIENDS PT is digital - no fidelity loss at all. editing is f#%king amazing in PT - use smart tool and move to the end of a region, you see the cursor change to a square, either with an x in which is the crossfade tool - OR a diagnal line for fade ins/outs mastering though is not...

    Another simple question (s?)

you can use it on 1 track several or th whole mx if you choose providing that you can set it up to cover more than one channel in real time. in digital systems its muh different, there are EQ and compressors available for each track so you coud have an infinate amount of the two running given...

Why not mix an album in mono?

Why not mix in Quad? :D - is there any place for irony here! if not i'll stop. im not sure it translates as text anyway P.S Pet sounds is in mono Because Wilson is deaf in his right ear and therefore cannot hear in stereo - but god I wish he could!

    Another simple question (s?)

Jealousy Well first of all! I AM JEALOUS. I'd love an analogue set up! my limited experience is digital only unfortunately. but I can help on the comp EQ topic hopefully (until someone justly or not tells you im wrong). You can use either at any point in your project! Though anything you print...

    Nearfields vs. Headphones

yeh, you need to trust monitors! HP's generally have great frequency reponse (especially to bass) which unless you have top class nearfields you wont get! i have similar probems. I cant afford monitors at the mo and all my mix's are sounding good in the cans but not on the stereo. I'd avoid...
