Right tool for the job. I've broken two favourite cymbals, a 20" 1940's paper-thin Zildjian, and an 18" Paiste Sound Formula Full Crash. Still have both in a closet somewhere... Devastating. Here's what I learned, haven't broken any since: Buy a couple sacks of the tallest cymbal stand...

Great recording, better than anything I'm getting. I'm no engineer but graduated with honors from DRI Thrash Academy. Drums too isolated maybe? The cymbal decay is awesome but suggests they're not in the same room. Needs some live raunch.

I have one too good not to share... "Kaboom!" Shower Door Cleaner. Do not use it on B85 or whatever freaky alloys (Paiste, Sabian). Supposedly, it contains the same (or very similar) ingredients as "Groove Juice".

I like their stuff too, will throw some ideas out but take with a grain of salt... First there's the obvious, it's an acrylic drum. His reso head is vented, at 4-5 o'clock very near hoop. Appears to be a dynamic mic through the hole. Appears to be another mic internally mounted.
