Also, strangely - and this may be related - Audacity won't stay downloaded. I have to download it every time I turn on my computer. Or download isn't the right word - it's acting more like a disc drive than a software.

Success! On a different computer. Was able to get it going on my Mac. Now my only issue is that I can't seem to get the right-side audio to work. I've got white rca in left in and left out, red rca in right in and right out. I know that's really basic but is that right?
I think I've successfully installed the drivers. Audacity is seeing the device. I can choose it in speakers and Line In. I'm still not hearing the tape when it plays and not sure where to go next.
