    I start with a chord progress, because it's much easier to get a tune, than work out a melody out of thin air. I tried several times, starting with tunes without chord progress as backup, but I failed at last. I've found that even without chord progress, without guitar or any other instrument...

    it's about 15cm-20cm away from mic when I'm getting the right level with the louder signal. but most of my voice detail lost. I could only hear a very thin line of high notes, very dry, no vibrant, no resonance. when i get closer to about 10cm, it causes distortion.

    Yes, it causes distortion. I want to close to the mic because I want the detail of my voice (vibrant.etc) recorded, but it causes distortion when I sing louder I use a pop filter, there is no much of plosive problem. If I turning the gain on my interface down, the mic probably wouldn't catch...

    I'm new and I'm so happy to find a forum like this!

    I'm an amateur singer, I wish to sing as well as possible. I also write a couple of songs, most of which are in pop/rock genre , and I'd love to sing them by myself. I've just browsed several threads people post for their problems and questions, and I realize that I'm not alone!:D
