Please help me to help myself get a recording system up and running

Be aware that keyboard USB ports often get a "not enough power to support device" error. The expansion card looks like a good option- sometimes there is a connector on the motherboard for more ports also.

NT1a Maknig Weird Nosie When i Touch It What's Wrong?

Generally, if electrical things change by touching them its a ground issue. Try plugging the components into the same outlet if they are into different outlets even if you have to use a power strip. Also try the reverse just to eliminate possible solutions.

    Cheap decent setup for streaming.

I'm going to chime in for the Yamaha AG 03- made for streaming- convenient computer loopback level controls etc... big slider for the mic... a little more expensive though.

    Friend's tune…Flat mix

The guitars sound right in the middle on top of the vocals. Maybe pan them? I like the vocals but there getting stepped on?

Damaged Fostex 80 - expert opinions please!

Was looking through the manual- did you do the brake adjustment procedure fig 6-9? Maybe the brake spring / tension needs adjusted. Just guessing. http://thesnowfields.com/manuals/Fostex_M80_sm.pdf

Direct Input Recording, Behringer Xenyx 802 or Gemini Ps-1000?

I believe these are both Low/Medium quality as far as sound quality of the preamps are concerned. Can you pony up another 50 or so for a Yamaha or Allen and Heath? Is a mixer what you need or do you need an audio interface also? If you are planning on recording into a computer (using the...

Which Mogami XLR do you use?

Electronically- isn't it impossible to hear a difference in cables with sufficient shielding and connection? If you have a complete sine wave with no interference due to decent shielding and a good connection with no artifacts- isn't it impossible to hear anything different?

What genre would you say this track is ?

It is pretty crazy that there are so many subdivisions of electronica. I was trying to get some modern stuff to DJ with even though I am a 70s reject like the rest of you, and I saw all these genres listed... House, Deep House, Trance, NuDisco, Ambient etc. and that doesnt include the...

External audio interface - scam, or necessity? (intel mac)

Any DJ will tell you to put in a high bit rate (or lossless) song and turn it up loud on GOOD speakers (QSC, JBL PRX's etc) ... you will notice the difference right away. I could never play a club with a laptop audio chip... it sounds terrible turned up.

    iPad to interface/PC

Use the line out cable you originally linked. I think this would be better than the headphone out which would be not optimal for a line in jack. (It would work with some level adjusting though...) Then you can take the line out (may need a jack adapter 1/8 to 1/4) and go to any line in jack...

Voiceover Microphones/Audio Interfaces (ST6050 vs U87 with Focusrite Scarlett 6i6)

As for your interface question: If you only require one input (the mic) and output you can get by with a lower model than the 6i6. You can get by with a 2i2 model or something less expensive with the same quality preamps in it. Both have 2 microphone inputs but the 6i6 has extra types of...

Sure they do. I am guessing the hip-hop forum is sparsely populated around here though. Lots of old curmudgeonly rock and rollers probably never even been to this forum. Like me.
