Help,Vent Ducting. Sound transmission. S Bend?

As for the two 180 degree bends...how many 180 degree bends does a trumpet have? Doesn't seem to stop the sound. The important thing isn't just the bends, but having the ducts lined with sound deadening material. If the ducts are lined what the bends do is to force the sound waves to make...

Microphone setup for 4-channel live recording

A PZM microphone needs to be placed on a solid surface heavy enough to reflect sound. Sound can be thought of in two ways, either has waves of high and low pressure or as air molecules vibrating back and forth. When viewed as pressure waves increased volume is higher pressure. When viewed as...

Two mics I wish somebody would make.

And what is all this about special mics for kick and toms? Nobody plays real drums anymore either!

Two mics I wish somebody would make.

I still like the option of only needing one channel on the board, particularly when using it for remote setups. Maybe they could build it with three xlr's and then bundle in a 3-into-1 adaptor for cases when you need to preserve channels.

Two mics I wish somebody would make.

The material you are talking about is belt webbing. You describe very close to what I was thinking. The only difference is that I was thinking you would accompdate different sized lids using a buckle and holes, just like a pants belt, or use velcro. You would still include a short elastic...

Two mics I wish somebody would make.

I said I wished somebody would make them, not that I was going to try to undertake them myself. Neither of these require anything in terms of technology, simply in terms of packaging.

Two mics I wish somebody would make.

Well, sometimes I would rather not have to build the thing myself, and have it look professional rather than kluged together. The answers to a nicer way than gaff tape to mount the microphone to the plexi and the plexi to the mic stand, handle the cords, etc. are worth some money. The shower...

Two mics I wish somebody would make.

Both are takes on a PZM. First, The Disk Mic. This would be a large plexiglass disk with a small high quality capsule (most likely electret) mounted in the center. It would be a boundary mic with the plexi disk acting as the boundary. In addition the disk would act to reflect sound back at...

    Mic'ing a Grand Piano

I really want to do a better job in the new church, but in the current setup what they do is put a single dynamic microphone poking in the end way up at the top (kind of wedged in there way up at the top). One question overlooked in micing a piano is how much do they raise the lid? If they...

Impressive looking moderately priced choir mic.

well, it is a whole new facility, so there is no question of what is there already. There is a quote on the table for a configuration that includes the typical kind of tiny condenser mics but I know the psychology of the volunteers.

    What's more important...mic or preamp?

I have always felt that no preamp can create something that the mic didn't pick up in the first place. Ergo the most important element in the signal chain is....the musician.

Impressive looking moderately priced choir mic.

A couple of the possibilities that I am seeing are the Blue Bluebird or possibly that old standby the MXL V67G or maybe the new V67Q XY stereo mic.

Impressive looking moderately priced choir mic.

The problem isn't the aesthetic, it is that when on stands there is always the chance of somebody knocking one over, particularly with the children's or youth choirs. The other problem with stands is that you are trusting the amateurs to not do something stupid with positioning and make for an...

Impressive looking moderately priced choir mic.

I am looking for some ideas for a pair of microphones that look impressive. I am issuing recommendations for the choir area of a new church. The church has maybe a dozen different singing groups almost all of which are amateurs. The usual way of micing a choir is to use spaced pairs of tiny...

    Cheap Vocal Mic

If you are in a good recording space (either a dead space or one with pleasing room accoustics) a fig-8 ribbon is excellent for vocals.
