Choir recording with solo and a potentially weak section

the decca tree placement could work for you. an extra mic by the soloists wouldn't be a bad idea either... here's a link: http://www.wesdooley.com/pdf/surround_sound_decca_tree-urtext.pdf s

At what point do you start (or stop) making the band sound better than they are?

that's a really good post and discussion: i would only say this: if you don't make them sound better, they will find someone else who can... (and then say that they are better at 'recording'). s

Toys R Us plastic Drums, recorded in garage on analog tape - Win a Grammy? Yep.

personally, i'm surprised to read the negative replies to dave grohl's message at all. i think it's really cool that he tried something different and it worked. if he wants to tell people that he recorded it in a garage and with 2inch tape, he should. especially on a nationally recognized...

How to double track vox properly

this is my opinion: keep in mind that it takes a long time to do something like this. it would be nice if you could just 'sing it twice' but that doesn't work. a lot of automation, proper panning, equalizing, effecting and balancing is needed to get that 80's ozzy sound you're lookin for. ;)...

    Re-Amping bass drum

i think you should try whatever you like. it might work. it might not. you might wind up with something really original and fun. you might wind up with something that sounds like crap. -- try to pan the kick off to the full right... i hear that's the 'wrong' way to do it as well. ;) good...

    Tool Bass Tone - Vicarious

yes... i had something huge typed out... but i think that post of chris shyler is all you need to know... (oh and how wrong i was... haha) s

    recording 20 voices

i would have to agree with this. if your computer lab is capable of doing this (each computer has garageband or something like that loaded) this seems like the easiest way to go without buying an expensive interface. it would be a lot of work to get all the computers into one room, but this...

    Latency with Logic 9.

hey... thanks a lot for the response and the links. i have solved the problem... it seemed that at some point i must have changed the device I/O settings to -5000 samples on the recording delay option. i set it to +5000 samples and guess what? it was about a half beat ahead of everything...

    Latency with Logic 9.

hello. i recently have had a lot of latency issues with using logic. when i first start a recording, i don't have any latency issues. i am now up to 15 tracks (5 wave tracks and 10 or so midi tracks and for each midi track sample tank is running) there are also only two busses running that...

Do i NEED to mic an amp?

it sounds to me that at the level you are at you should go with an amp simulator. i am a huge fan of mic'ing amps and getting the natural and real sound out of them, however, if you are at the early stages of recording, you can try all kinds of different sounds with simulators which are...

    G note hum

maybe you found the resonant frequency of the building? if you have a synth, amp it and play all the G notes... if the house falls down around you, problem solved! s

    G note hum

the G is resonating in the body of the guitar... use a condenser further away and don't mic the sound hole. that's what i think, anyways. s

    G note hum

i have the problem with G and A (on the Estring)... i just live with it, play around it, mic further away, etc... it probably has to do with resonant frequencies, intonation, math parabolas, sonic wave equations and shit like that. ...all that stuff you don't really need to know about to...
