    Osclliator Question...

I have one of these. I want to send a 1K tone from it to my console. In order to gauge the level of the tone, could I use a voltmeter on the outputs? If I took a reading of 1.23V of 1K, and sent that into my console and adjusted the input level to 0VU, that would translate to +4 (which is what...

    Head Cleaner

I'm having a hard time tracking down Tascam head cleaner / rubber conditioner packs that I used to get. Anyone know where I can get em? Together or seperate, whatever. If not, what do you use to clean your tape machine? Thanks.

can you hook up a tascam cassette 4 track to a cd burner in any way?

He said that it's a Adaptec external burner. That's not a standalone, it needs a computer.

can you hook up a tascam cassette 4 track to a cd burner in any way?

You cannot hook up that burner to the 424. Use a cable with 2 RCA plugs to 1/8" mini-plug, the RCA side into the 424 and the 1/8" into the soundcard of your computer. Record .wav files of your mixes and burn those to a CD.

    snare rattle

Markd is correct, loosen the snares. But also, you need to get used to the sound. People have been trying to get rid of snare buzz for many years, and nothing works, save for playing with the snares off completely... I think the rest of the drums sound cooler with the snares rattling...

    RC-30P Punch pedal

I believe the machine has to be in PLAY mode first. Hit the pedal while it's playing and you're in RECORD.

    TASCAM 488 mkII

All I was saying was that you choose your equipment based on what it will be used for. You can't possibly think that there is ONE recorder that would be good to record ALL types of music. What if I don't want a recording that's "CD quality" (whatever that means)? And if not recording on a...

    TASCAM 488 mkII

You cannot recommend a machine to someone without knowing it's intended application. Listening to live drums recorded on an MD8 makes me choke. It's so sterile, missing the grit I love so much. And digital distortion is one of the most irritating sounds I've ever heard, I quite like when I hit...

Phantom power in the 488 mkII

Always have the phantom power switched off before plugging in the mic. The power status of the machine shouldn't matter.

    cleaning the 488MKII's pinch roller

thanks twist, but wouldn't you figure that there would be a better way to do it? i did it that way, but thought that getting the oil or whatever else is on my fingers on the roller and on the tape isn't a good idea... maybe i'll just have to wash my hands every so often now. damn.

    cleaning the 488MKII's pinch roller

ok maybe i'm a bit slow, or just got used to my older cassette decks, but how should i clean the pinch roller on my 488MKII? on other machines, i usually just press play and keep q-tips up against it until it's clean, but on the 488MKII, i have to hold that erase tab checker thing up and it only...
