Ah, just found that there are 2 types of Triton pre-amps! The £110+ one, the square shaped one, say it does not need external power source to work. Will this do what I want???

Many thanks for the reply. Some clarity - If I plug the the SM57 straight into the pedal-board I do get a sound out of the other end, put it is extremely low compared with plugging a guitar into it.
