im not familiar with your program, but generally you can import a cd track into a program and it will play back as you record with your microphone. see if there is a way to import a wav file or a cd track into your program - goodluck, ben
my set-up right now is a mackie onyx 1620 with the firewire option. the first 8 direct outs go to my otari 8-track 1/2" tape machine. - so ideally i like to track to the computer and to tape simultaniously. when i want to play back the tape, however, i have to unplug all my mics and plug in the...
this is very true and easy to forget because its so fun to research and get new gear. you can certainly do some recording with what you already have. that said; i have a mackie onyx 1620 with the firewire option. i like it, but for me the 'mixer' portion is kind of overkill, meaning an onyx 800...
you'll need an audio interface with a mic pre-amp. m-audio makes some cheap ones that i think are fine (i've never used one). you will plug your sm-57 into your mic pre-amp on your interface. your interface will convert this analog signal to a digital signal and send it to your computer.
what is your recorder? (an audio interface for a computer, a tape machine, a digital multi-track...?) also what do you want to plug in? a guitar, a microphone, a keyboard...?
what kind of mic pre-amp are you running into? what is the gain set at? where does the signal go from there? do you have phantom power for your condenser?
thanks for the response. the reason i wanted to hear it in context would be to adjust the tone on the amp, mic placement, stomp boxes i might use, etc.. So i wanted to hear the re-amped guitar tone with the song.
i use a mackie onyx 1620 with firewire as my interface, and it only draws one stereo signal from the computer. i want to get into re-amping and the way i had it figured i would have to have at least one more output to run to the amp in order to hear the re-amped signal and the rest of the song...
from reading earlier posts i haven't been able to figure out an answer to this question. if i run a recorded guitar signal from my interface or tape machine into the output of my d.i. box, and run from the input of the d.i. to the amp, will it work. will the d.i. raise the impedence back to an...
i own a mackie onyx 1620 - to hook it up to your computer you have to have the firewire option card, which effectivley turns it into an interface. you should check if they still come with a copy of traktion 2, mackie's DAW. it's pretty powerful and intuitive for someone with little experience. i...
do you want to play the whole thing over your reason track, do you want to loop it, or do you want cut each note up and play it with a keyboard?
if you just want them to play at the same time you can rewire the two programs together - you open up a rewire track in Live and then open reason...

i just recently recording a four song e.p. for a band and three of the songs had viola. we experimented with 2 sdcs (neumann km184s) an ldc (at 4033) and the violist's pick-up - in the end we used different mics/combinations on different songs - we close-miked above the instrument...
i am using a motu midi timepeice a/v (paralell version) to sync my otari tape machine to my daw(traktion). when i install the motu software (clockworks) i start to get pops in my recording - so i reinstall my mackie onyx (1620 with firewire) software. this fixes the pops, but clockworks wont...
mackie onyx
i have the mackie onyx 1620 with the firewire option - like anything it has +'s and -'s. because it is a *fully functional* analog mixer as well as an interface it has certain amenities like record out's (which i use to run to an 8 track otari). the signal that is sent to firewire...
