The Drum Bubble - Leaks in my space

It’s been a few months and I’ve been working stupid hard on trying to solve problems with my project. The main problem I was wanting to solve was leaking into my granddaughters room. Music played at about 100db still went through the wall at about 40-50 db. Not horrible but far from...

I’m adding two more layers to one side of the structure. There is a 2” gap where the sheets will go leaving a 1/4” gap. Which side of the additional sheets should the gap be?

I figured out my problem with the Behringer BA19a boundary mic. It is excellent. Really good. The recorded tracks are accurate and able to be processed into pretty much whatever kick sound you’re going for. Very happy with it and only $70!

The Drum Bubble - construction details

I live in a brand new neighborhood here in south central Florida, which is still under construction. There are dumpsters everywhere and the builders throw out an unbelievable amount of perfectly good building materials and other items. I scavenged a lot of framing for the Drum Bubble. Today, I...

I’m afraid it’s exactly that. I am chasing that last 10% which of course is at the top of the db scale making it super challenging. But I have a number of relatively simple things to try and maybe I’ll get something for it.

The Drum Bubble - Material to use between wall and floor

Green glue publishes such data on their website, for whatever it’s worth. To me, as an amateur, it seemed credible and I decided to use it. But as you have said, it’s really messy and although GG claims to block low frequencies better than other solutions, I have loads of low frequency...

The Drum Bubble - Material to use between wall and floor

This is a stupid question but, do you know just how much real world difference it makes for your build to have that sill seal vs not having one?

Right. So much of this is a crap shoot as to whether I actually get any improvement. Kinda frustrating. But thank you very much for the input. Mike

Still chasing improvements. If I were to hang a curtain of two pound mass loaded vinyl on a wall facing a bedroom where sound is getting through, would it work? What would be better, inside or out? Thanks Mike

    Small Room Acoustics

I’m about to build rockwool corner traps and I have two questions I can’t seem to find a definitive answer for: Should the traps be away from the wall a bit or snug against it? In regard to fibers escaping through the cloth, would a light spray of lacquer or some other substance to lock in the...

The speakers are 90 degrees to the hole. I think you may be right about the null but I’m probably going to move on to the next thing. I can always come back to it.

That makes a lot of sense, especially the microwave analogy. This would account for no significant difference with or without a hole. An acoustic Faraday Cage? I suppose I could further test by cutting holes of various sizes all over the structure to see more broadly what the effect is. Nah, I...

The Drum Bubble - Leaks in my space

I’ve started doing some real world tests on my space. The results are not unacceptable, but not nearly close to my vision. I set up my kick-snare and got a base line by striking the kick-snare medium hard and used its max of 104db as my reference point. I then set up mics and recorded some...
