    sounds like you are asking more how to deal with communication problems than getting a certain snare sound. it may be that fixing the snare in the mix isn't the solution. maybe the guy needs to be more realistic and less "rock-movie". maybe the drummer needs to hit the snare better. maybe...

    Recording compressed vocals

    i tend to chain a couple compressors on tracks, with vocals, one with faster attack and higher ratio (2:1 - 4:1) to grab spikes and one with slower attack and more moderate ratio to level things a bit.

    yes - I performed the modification written in Recording Mag Sept 2003 by Scott Dorsey. I didn't perform any scientific testing, but I did play an acoustic guitar through the mic before and after.

    did you have any trouble getting the case screws out? mine are soft and off center (not positioned in the hole well, half the screw head is underneath the case), and they get mangled when trying to unscrew....
