Hey guys, I'm going to Memphis this weekend and plan on checking out Sun Studio while I'm there. I hear they modernized the place in the mid 80's, but surely they still have some cool analog stuff there. Anybody been there?
The pitch control on my 488mkii is giving me problems. The tape speed is faster than usual when the pitch wheel is in the center position. Also, any movement or a slight bump of the unit will cause the pitch to alter. What would cause this? Belt? Motor? Rubber band about to snap? :confused:
What's up with all the hiss on Hendrix's records? I've heard other recordings from the same period that aren't as noisy. I guess this was pre Dolby NR. It could be that the hiss is coming from Jimi's amp. It's not necessarily a bad thing, in fact it sounds better than a lot of the sterile...
What is a safe distance to store your tapes or recorder from magnetic fields? Unfortunately, I'm resticted to my bedroom at the moment which is filled with speaker cabinets, television, computer monitor, ect...
Sorry in advance if this has been covered before. Is there a noticable difference in sound quality from a 488mkii to a TSR-8? How difficult is it to find tape for this machine?
I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question or not, but I've been listening to some old 60's stuff lately(Elvis and the Beatles) and I've noticed that often times the drums are panned hard to one side. Sometimes even the vocals are panned hard to one side. Was this a trend? Or...
Can anyone give some feedback on the Tascam 488? I've seen quite a few on ebay. I've been recording on a Roland VS880EX for the last couple of years and I'm ready to give up on digital. I've got an old 424 Portastudio that I like the sound of and I was wondering how the 488 compares.
