    Help with setup

Hi there, (btw we're not reddit ;-) ) I would be careful with this method, you sound like you're building quite a fire risk. Also remember sound's not a one way thing. If you don't mind sound escaping you also don't mind sound entering the booth. Can you give some more details. Such as...

    Starting a Garden Studio

Good news! Planning permission is approved. So speaking to buildings regs they tell me that as the room will be used to teach members of the public it requires a full plans building regs application. So I got to get drawing for that! They need to inspect the concrete slab I already laid though...

That's my thoughts too. If a timber frame roof will suffice, then logically timber frame walls would also. Which saves time, and I can do the work myself. The sound reduction is mainly to reduce escaping noise from guitars (and probably drums in near future).

The non flammable materials rule is for building without planning permission. As I'm getting planning permission I can use any materials they accept ha! For ventilation whilst maintaining airtightness I think I can put an extractor fan in the roof with insulation lined box to reduce sound...

    Starting a Garden Studio

Ok guys, the winter is over so I'm back to actually constructing the garden studio that has been dormant as a slab for over 6 months. As I was silly and built it too close to my boundary (sigh) I had to get planning permission to exceed 2.5m total external height of building. So that's finally...

Garden studio - Cavity and roof ventilation???

Hi all, I'm looking at building in my garden studio. My current construction design involves using a single skin exterior concrete brick course and internal isolated timber stud room. In traditional timber framed houses with exterior brick work, brick vents are added every few meters to allow...

Recording a screen capture video with a mic

I may be late to the party, but there's a piece of free CCTV software called iSpy that lets you add a desktop screen as a "camera" and then add a microphone and pair the two. Then when you click record on the desktop the video and audio record onto a single mp4. I use it at my religious meeting...

    Low profile ceiling acoustic treatment

Ah the purpose would help wouldn't it! I actually plan on creating a guitar teaching space and live room, but also want to do a little mixing in the room. I understand I can't have a perfect live and control room easily in the same space, but it should be fine for my purposes. The roof I'm...

    Low profile ceiling acoustic treatment

Hi, I've watched John h Brandt's videos (which are great btw) and he mentions about treating all walls and the ceiling. The studio design I have will have a ceiling height of only 2.3m before treating (2.5m external height to avoid planning permission) Are there any low profile treatment...

    Starting a Garden Studio

Wow that took longer than expected to start! Hi all! Back to my construction of the garden studio! Concrete slab laid, damp proofed and ready for the room to shoot up. I'm going to be starting on the internal isolated room's stud work first and get that up without the brick work in the way...

    Starting a Garden Studio

Ah that sounds annoying! Nah I don't think there's so much of a problem in the UK. They don't mind as long as it's not attached to your house. I might need to speak to the insurance company about covering the studio itself though! I'll have a word with the council though before setting off with...

    Starting a Garden Studio

I definitely will! I've dug most of my footings so just holes in the ground so far ha! When the construction's finished I'll be needing all your help to improve the acoustics in the room though, because I'm not so up on that myself.

    Starting a Garden Studio

Hi, I'm planning on building ventilation along the ceiling soffit. An extractor fan on the outside wall and a box along the top of the room's corner, with a vent connected by flexible ducting, in an S-Shape, the boxing will be filled with rockwool and covered by acoustic plasterboard. Heating...
