    Live synth

I have an old Novation K-Station that does a lot of what you want. Knbs and sliders galore. Only two octaves, though, and a bit flimsy. You might also check out the Alesis Ion - good sounds and interface. What is the SH missing that you want?

    Anyone using the Alesis Fusion?

Nope, pretty stable. I should go check for an update, though.

    Anyone using the Alesis Fusion?

I have the 6HD. Like it, don't love it. As usual with Alesis, you have to do a lot of digging to find a good patch, though the basic piano patch is pretty nice. The 40GB hard drive and sampling capabilities are promising - but I don't have time to work with it like that.

Would you buy a Korg WavestationSR if you have a M1 already?

Wavesequencing can make a very complex sound. That an M1 couldn't touch. Go for it.

    Roland VP-550 Vocal Designer, Realistic?

This sounds pretty convincing and choirlike. Unless you select the vocoder preset, lol. The keyboard plays the carrier notes, you speak or sing the lyrics into the mic, the chioir singing your words comes out the main. It sounded good, if not 100% lifelike. There's a recording of Jordan...

Wife threatened me with divorce if I ever buy....

You don't have: Yamaha VL - even if you just get the monophonic 70m, these are awesome. Physical modeling. Evolver (mono) - or PolyEvolver - killer fat analog sounds Moog little phatty or voyager (or minimoog) - just get one. Arp Odyssey - way underrated - these things sing like nothing...

    Roland VP-550 Vocal Designer, Realistic?

This one's more like a vocoder. You plug a mic into the back, sing into it, and it applies your sound to the carrier sounds, presets to make you sound like a gospel choir, men's chorus, women's chorus, classical choir, vocoder, etc. In fact, I imagine it's exactly a vocoder. I bought one at...

    Possible to live manipulate DX7?

Sure you can, you just need to use a controller instead of the DX keyboard, one with assignable sliders and/or knobs. My old KX-88 was great for that - I used it with a pair of TX-7's, the module equivalents of a DX-7 - and had several presets assigning sliders to different sysex parms. It...

    using Autotune w/ vegas 7

The VST is new - I have the standalone (which can also work in Rewire) Melodyne Uno, you edit a wav file. Think it cost me $150. The coolest thing about it is its ability to separately identify and adjust drift, vibrato, center pitch, and formants. Editing interface takes some getting used to...

    Seperate Tracks ACID PRO 6

Starting with v6, there's a red "arm" button on each track. Only arm the track you're recording. Also, make sure you have version 6.0d. Something may have been messed up with the solo button on earlier builds - I know solo was messed up on 4.0 for a while. Daf

    Chord Progression question???

Ha - I posted without reading this. It's the key of C - that's why the F doesn't sound final. And why there's a B instead of a Bb in the melody, and a G chord (which doesn't exist in the key of F).

    Chord Progression question???

Yweah, there's some Elton John song that does a ii7-V ad nauseum. Come to think of it, Fleetwod Mac's Dreams does something like that too, except it's IV-V - it does get to a vi in the guitar break, but never to a I.

Looking for advice from folks with knowledge on a purchase for our studio.

It's kind of like having Logic and nuendo and having customers insist on Pro Tools. You just gotta decide if the bang for the buck is there on the motif. If no one is insisting on the Triton or Fantom, you might consider replacing one of those with the Motif. But one analog or digilog is a...

Making Piano Sheet Music Using Midi?

BTW, I'm a big fan of LilyPond - really hard to use, BUT it works with flat text files. If you can get past the learning curve (I'm still on training wheels), it makes some gorgeous looking scores. So far I've only produced one SAB hymn with it, and don't even know how to do a refrain or cue...

Making Piano Sheet Music Using Midi?

Todd, I didn't know that about Sibelius. I'll have to check out the copy in the school lab. I've been avoiding switching from Encore, but that little feature might help me reach escape velocity. Daf
