All of the home studio demos from the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Wildflowers reissue. The absolute best an acoustic guitar has ever sounded. One day I'll duplicate it, if I'm lucky. :)
Logic drops a ton of frames and really sucks at this compared to other DAWs. Pro Tools works much better as does Reaper. Worth trying before you go down other rabbit holes - these other methods tend to be full of headaches.
I have a move coming up and am thinking I don't want to haul this giant-ass thing around any longer. Everything works except the counter computer, for which the display is dead. Could just be a power supply issue or a cap somewhere. But the transport, rec/play and all ins and outs and other...
Do you live anywhere near Southern California? Dave at VST in Arcadia is THE authority on these machines and he services them for relatively cheap (under $300 to get mine in working order). I'm super happy with my 1212 but if Dave ever retires I'm SOL. I have no interest in learning how to...
By the way it looks like there is some capability in Logic for exactly this, but who knows how well it works. I guess I'm gonna have to buy a new interface to find out. :D
Logic Pro X: MIDI Machine Control
Okay so the MG1212 has 1/4" Sync In and Sync out jacks, and the MOTU has 1/4" Time Code inputs and outputs for SMPTE. Would it really be as simple as striping the tape with SMPTE and slaving the 828es to it as described here: MOTU.com - Tech Notes. Or is it better to do it the other way...
What kind of recording? Is it piano only? If it's piano only those Coles in a Blumlein array could get you a lot of dimensionality, space, and detail if you don't mind boosting some high frequencies afterwards. I'd be most excited to try that first.
Thanks! Is that actually using the erase head or is it just recording over what's there with null info? Dave at VST did go over with me about the importance of cleaning and demagnetizing the surfaces. He also related that there has always been a problem with tape shedding with these. All of...
I recently acquired one of these for $20 (I KNOW) and just got it home from getting serviced at VST. What's not apparent to me from the manual or looking over the machine, is how do I fully erase a tape? I see that there's an erase head, but the manual doesn't seem to indicate how to use it...
